Spyderco Military questions

Hi all, I just acquired a serrated Spyderco Military with an ATS-34 blade and I did a search to see what were the differances between the older ATS34 versions and the current ones. What I read was that the older models had bead blasted linerlocks, blackened handle screws and a pocket clip attached by 2 screws. However, my model has a polished linerlock, silver finished pocket clip attached by 3 screws and all the handle screws are polished as well. I've seen pics of the current models to compare and aside from the visible differance in the blade (engraving and grooved choil on the ATS-34 version), but otherwise the handles look the same. Did Spyderco upgrade the ATS-34 Military models before the transition to CPM S30V?

Hi Cosmic. We are always upgrading the models, incementally. Over the years, the changes do make a difference. At this time, there is probably not a single part that is interchangable between the older ATS and current Military models.

Materials have evolved in blades. liners and scales. Sizes have been refined. Pivots changed, etc. The clip and lanyard sleeve might still be the same.

Our approach to the main models is similar to the auto industry. We are always testing. Our Endura, Delica, Military, etc. are always evolving.

For example, the Police model is now .015 thicker at the tip for additional strength without sacrificing penetration. (2 months ago).

These changes are constant in our line. Sometimes minor refinements, sometimes a major change like the Chinook I and Chinook II.

I highly recommend the new S30V Military!!

I haven't acquired any of the ATS34 models, but I do have two 440V Millies(CE,SE) and the newest version is the BEST, by far. Thicker G10 slabs, thicker liner(IMO), real smooth pivot action and of course, that awesome S30V steel....really took my breath away when I finally got one in PE.
