For years I have been interested in knives and have considered myself well versed on the what makes a premium knife worth the cost vs. a cheaply made knife. I have been edc'ing Benchmade knives of various models for the past eight years.

A few years ago a fellow officer was leaving our department and as a going away gift I gave him a Spyderco Police that I had aquired at a pawn shop I had worked at part time. The police model didn't grow on me because I felt like the steel handle was too slippery for hard use.

Fast forward till now and I started looking for a new edc knife. Knowing that I wanted a serious well made knife I came to this site and lurked for long enough that I came across the Spyderco Military. After reading the post here I ordered one with the s30v steel. It came today, and all I can say is wow! I have been slicing everything around my house today that has not had the foresight to run for cover. Many a sheet of copy paper and packaging has been felled by this gem of a knife. I'm sure that I will grow even more fond of the knife as time passes and I cant say enough of how solid and well built this knife feels. I now believe I have been converted.

Thanks to everyone on the site for helping me reach a decision I couldn't be happier with. I will be posting again soon.

And thanks Sal, for the great knife.

BTW, the other officer still carries that police model and will not hear of buying anything else. (He said when it breaks or cant be sharpened he'll buy another. I don't think he'll ever reach that point.)

Purely my opinion, but Spyderco blows away other knife companies in both materials, quality, ethics, and value.

The only ones who can touch them is RAT in the fixed blade market and some of the custom makers we have here. I only use knives from three different companies. Spyderco, RAT, and JK Handmade Knives. All can be reached on here and all listen to customer input and will only produce the absolute best quality item they can.

I see no need for any other brands. :D

Good choice, I just got a Millie myself, it is quickly becoming a favorite!

Spyderco makes excellent folder knives but also does it Emerson, Kershaw, Benchmade, Sog... I own several models from each one of these companies and honestly it´s difficult to choose wich one I like the most.

Spyderco is an Excellent company:) They have excellent customer service. I really like the Military and the basic native knives. They grow on you greatly!!!!;)

kershaw is the only co. that i am disappointed with at this point

Uh-oh.

Congratulations on the Military---it's an excellent design in any of its many combinations and models!

You won't be disappoint from its performance and its reliability---it is one of the major standbys in my ever-growing, extensive collection and in the knife industry in general.

Enjoy. :)

Congradulations and welcome to your new addiction!

Welcome to the forums, lpd, and welcome to one of the best knives there is. You will find that the Millie just gets better through use. Beware however, Spydies are very addictive and you will probably find yourself tempted by other models. *cough* Police 3 *cough* ;)

Welcome and congrats on your new knife, it'll serve you well. The more you use it the more you'll come to love the Military, it's one of the few knives that just feels right in my hand, gotta love the ergos.

You are headed in the right direction, the Military is a real workhorse. Congratulations.

Now the only problem I'm having is hiding the bill from my wife for the paramilitary I want as a backup or for situations where the military might be a tad bit too large.
