I am a proud owner of a Spyderco Military. This is a nice knife at a reasonable price. I just wanted to ask a few questions about it. Is the pivot adjustable? And if it is adjustable, what size is the torx screw? Is there any thread locker holding the torx screw in place? And at last but not least, If and when is the military rolling lock due to be sold?

Congrats on being the newest Military Man! To answer your questions - yes, pivot is adjustable, via a T10 Torx (IIRC). There should be some thread lock applied already, during assembly. The RL Military is slated to be released sometime next year. We're all looking forward to it!

Thanks Dexter for the information. Just waiting to be a proud owner of a RL Military.

Big D1 -- welcome to the Military Man Club! Here's a related thread:

I'm still building up the nerve to try and "experiment" with my Military's torx head screw; I hope you post your result.

Titan, thanks for the thread. I will let you the outcome of loosening the pivot screw. Did you have any problems when you loosened your Military pivot screw? Thanks, David

Hasn't Sal warned us not to mess with the pivot screw as it will mess up the lock settings?

Hmmm.. on my Military, I just adjust it left or right, depending on whether I wanted the swing to be fast or tight.

so far, it hasn't done anything out of the ordinary... YET..

Me too - I've adjusted the pivot tension on my serrated Military, and have not had any lock problems yet. I suppose if you adjust it slightly, you won't encounter lock problems. But I'm not one to experiement with this though

Well, I see one who has, please read the "Military SOS" thread.

Dexter, what kind of thread locker do you recommend to apply to the pivot screw? Would it be loctite 222 or something similar?

What I did notice was that adjusting it left or right would stop it after a certain degree of turn (around 1/4 turn at most for both ends).

Hugh, in the thread "Military SOS", the poster mentioned that the tang moved away from the liner. I really don't see how this can be (unless the pivot pin is moving too? heaven forbid!).

I checked my knife for any gap between the tang and the liner, and there's no gap, no matter how lax, or how tight I adjusted the pivot. Must be a factory defect or something that he got? Adjusting the torx should only loosen or tighten the pivot of the blade, not move it out of position.

I guess if the knife itself wasn't meant to be adjusted, Spyderco should hide that adjustable torx head, so we won't tamper with it.

hehehe..

Big D1 - use Loc-Tite blue for the pivot assembly, and clip screws of folding knives. Remember - just a drop is all you need as a little will go a long way. Hope this info helps.
