Don't walk, RUN TO BUY THIS KNIFE!

I have one, and even though I dont use it regularly anymore, it was well worth it, and is good to have!

check out the Search feature, just type in "Military" in the Spyderco forum and Spyderco forum archive, there's hundreds of topics. I know because I've been spending a lot of time with the same idea you've got.

shinobi, 4 years ago I bought a military fully serated in cpm-440v steel. At the time I already owned a Benchmade CQC-7 and an AFCK- both good knives in their own right. I did not think the military could improve on either of the two and only bought it because I got an incredible deal on the price. I was wrong! The military is a true workhorse that cuts and cuts and cuts. 4 years on I no longer own the CQC-7 or the AFCK, but the military rides in my pocket everyday.

I've seen serrated (yeah I know!) Spyderco Military knives selling for as low as $85 on the net.

Apparently, it's still safe to buy a Military in that Sal G. at the Spyderco forum says that they won't be making any design changes, if any, until at least late 2001. They are apparently still trying to keep up with the current demand so any design rehauls are on the backburner!

The most anticipated wait, of course, is the COMPRESSION LOCK system. Whether or not it will come out in a new 2001 Military, or similar knife, is still unknown.

You really can't to go wrong with this knife! I like mine a lot, it is my very favorite "around household" and kitchen knife

Jonny, thanks for nice photo!

I'll go against the grain here; I had a Military(plain edge) and didn't like it much. Although it is hi-quality, the handle is too narrow for my hand and the blade(cpm440v) showed some light rusting during an overnite outing. It wiped clean, but it wasn't exposed to much moisture. Good value and tough, just not my choice for an overall heavy-use folder. Jason

Shinobi et al-

I have the Mlitary in a serrated edge which I have been using for strong side carry. I've always wanted one for weak side carry, but then I'd have to find someplace else to carry my Civilian. There is nothing about this knife I don't like (Hurray for the good old American double negative!). I have never had any folder, with the exception of the Endura, fit and feel so good.

But I'm going to have to send mine back to the factory and maybe pay for some repairs. I believe I may have damaged the liner lock in it. It happened one day when I was doing some thrusting tests to check handle ergonomics. I was lightly thrusting into a telephone book taped to my 75lb punching bag. Because I was focused on whether or not my hand was slipping towards the blade, I failed to realize there were other forces at work. After several thrusts, I noticed that something felt funny. On my next thrust, I realized that the handle was flexing slightly.

After that, I noticed that the one handed snap openings were not near as smooth. Using the thumb hole and opening the knife slowly, I found that at there was a relatively greater force needed to start opening the blade. I am guessing that the liner lock was slightly tweaked.

I'll have to send it in when I get my Sifu.
