I'm pretty sure that the military will be my next knife ( like I need another one ). I'd like to know is anyone unhappy that they bought one? If you are unhappy, what are the reasons why? Appreciate any input.
Thanks, Rick

I suggest you try "Search" function. There was at least one very extensive thread on this model and a very good review. I have one of the S30V models and think it's great. Happy Thanksgiving.

Listen to Buzzbait, he admittedly tried hard to ignore, neglect, and abuse his first Military. He tried hard to simply not like it. Guess what? The Military won and Buzz can't stop singing it's praises. ;)

I have read everything I could find on the Military. To be honest, I can't find any glaring negatives about it, especially the newest version with S30V blades.

It's on my list to get.

For several years I managed to elude the Military. Just got one with partial serrations. This is a great knife. IMHO one of the best folders you can buy. Try it you'll like it.

thanks guys,
I've heard nothing but good reviews, I was just curious if anyone had a bad experience with it. My local brick and mortar will give me a full serration sv30 for 100$ so I think I'll jump on it.

Thanks Rick

Wow, that's real generous of them to just give it to you. Oh, for $100.00. ;)

I've had a few bad Military experiences.

1) Picking one up 2-3 years ago, putting it down then wasting money on all those other pieces of junk I trialled in the position of EDC before I got one.

2) I've just returned from the western desert from what was probably one of the great trips of my life, with a photographer mate looking for wild camels, and I forgot to take the Millie:mad: I must have reached for it 500 times. Kept having to borrow my mates SAK.

3) Having other people comment. 'What a funny, ugly looking knife'.

I like the knife but I think it's kind of big for EDC. Same goes for my Sere 2000.

I like the size of the Delica. Is it available in the same construction as the Military? That would be a nice EDC.

I regretted buying mine because it cut me worse than ANY OTHER KNIFE I have ever owned!

Sharp, reliable, strong, and great company. Don't hesitate.

Military? BIG? i think it's downright average, even with "medium" sized hands. get one, it's a terrific knife. the s30v is definitely on my want list.

Man, this forum is dangerous. Now I want a Military on top of everything else! I think it's going to be a Merry Christmas for me. :) From reading about the liner lock, can anyone comment on if it is similar to the Spyderco Terzuola Staremate's lock? If I already have the Staremate am I going to be getting something better in the Military? The s30v is a plus of course.

Also, with such a big blade does anyone recommend partial serrations?

I like the knife, but I simply like my straighter handled Starmate better.
I like the flat grind though

I have to agree that the Military is a fine knife. It has a flat grind and a wide blade that makes for a really nice slicing tool. I would like a thicker handle but with the overall size what it is, I think the thinner handle helps in carrying such a large framed knife. I know we aren't suppose to pry with our knives and I wouldn't but I often wonder about the strength of the tip being so fine.

In my opinion, the Military has much better ergos than the Starmate. The Starmate has that little "hump" halfway down the bottom of the handle. Never could figure that design theory out. Quite uncomfortable, almost irritating. The Military has a mini-choil real close to the blade for choking up. Very nice. The Military has much better expansion at the rear of the handle for better knife retention and handling. And the "bent" profile of the Military beats the "straight" profile of the Starmate in the comfort department.

Get both. Work the Millie, store the Starmate.

The handle is .5" too long and .125" too thin.;) And I don't get to sharpen it as much as other knives.

IMO it is the best production knife made. For those who like a smaller EDC the Para will be just as good as the Military.

The only problem I've had with mine is a bit of lock slippage. But I cured that when I tightened the handle screws. If you get one, it might be worth your while to take out the screws and use the temporary loc-tite on them. I'm not sure which kind it is, but I don't think it requires heat to release. I wish they would eliminate the cutout over the lock, just for security issues. Other than those two minor issues, I've loved my Milli. It's replaced my AFCK, SOFCK, and BM 710 as an "almost EDC". The only reason it isn't an EDC is because its a little big to carry with legal confidence on a college campus. I think you'll be happy with one if you decide to purchase.

Oh wow, that makes post 500 for me:D
