Picked up a spydie CF Miliatry BG42 and have been using it for about 3weeks every day, I was wondering on your thoughts of this knife as a folder around camp. Just for light cutting chores, it would accompany my SAK and Busse Badger. Does anyone have any info or have used this sypdie around camp...
As ways thanks for your replies.........

Sure opens fast, eh?
I think the Military makes a great camp knife. I used to work part-time in a bakery (2nd job) when the first generation Military came out. I used that knife to slice a whole lot of card board.

Due to the distal taper, the tip is very thin and pointy, yet the base of the blade is rather robust.

Nice big handle to hold onto. Lots of cutting power, yet fairly light.

If I had the spare $$$$ (which I don't :( ) I would be very interested in the BG42 model!

I use an S30V millie as my primary bush knife. Have ranged far and wide in looking for a better allround trekking/bush/camp knife but always come back to the Millie.

I was trying to decide between a Military or a Manix a few months back, and went with the Manix for one main reason: steel liners. I find the Manix to be a much more sturdy knife (but also quite a bit heavier). Do you find the military to be heavy duty enough, I mean is it worth the weight savings? I love my Manix, but have been thinking lately of getting a Millie for in the woods.

The Military does make a great camp/hike knife. It is very easy to open and close one handed, providing you are a righty. I keep hearing bad things about liner locks, but honestly, I have never had a problem with this model. I take it along with me whenever I camp, along with a good fixed blade chopper, you are ready for anything.:)

How would you compare Military and Endura for such duties? Do you find Military to be much stronger? I carry Endura right now as my primary hiking knife. What would be the advantage of the Millie?

One advantage would be the open design of the Military, much easier to keep clean in the field, also the G10 scales are grippier than the FRN Endura scales. I have both models and I am in no way putting down the Endura, the are both great folders. Just thought of another advantage, the thumb hole is larger on the Military, easier to open with gloves on.

Had a Military. Used it in the military! My only complaint is that the cut-out for releasing the liner-lock is so deep that you can sometimes release the lock without meaning to. It snags or is depressed by something. It does happen.

Thinking seriously about getting another Military for my work knife. I'm almost ALWAYS working in sub zero temps, and therefore wearing thick gloves, which I really don't want to take off. I remember the liner-lock is pretty darn accessible on those, which might be a real good thing for my circumstances.

I really didnt get it about the military, I mean I saw them, they looked cool....but could it keep up with my SNG? my Sebbie? why yes it could! I in fact carry it more often than either of those two. Its light, large(which I like) and I have confidence in the liner lock. It will handle most anything I do with it(which does not include prying) and I have used it in battoning for fun. I did not have it locked when doing so.

I really do like the military and I do like it better than the Endura. The flat ground blade in S30v and BG-42 I think hold an edge a little better(imo) and the thumbhole being larger than in the endura is a big plus to me. I can open it wearing gloves easily which, in the endura, can be taxing. I also think it opens smoother than my endura's.

I do recommend it and now that i have 2 of them I really do like them. I LOVE the manix too, its a tough call, I would rather have the manix in the bush as it is heftier but for an edc and for MOST cutting chores I think the military takes care of them all very well.

thanks for all your replies, I cant wait to get to deer camp and use this knife outdoors....

I would (and do) use my Manix rather than my Millie outdoors or for heavy work. The tip on the Millie is just so thin and fine, I'm sure I would break it if I were to really beat on the knife, or if I simply weren't careful. I've used my Millie for a few pretty heavy things, and the tip is still perfect, but I always worry about it. I never worry about my Manix, for anything. It is a beast and cuts like a lightsaber. It outcuts the Millie, in my experience.
