ive been considering getting a spyderco knife for a while now and ive been looking at either a spyderco military or a waved endura but i cant decide.
im not a big fan of lockback mechanism knives but i do like the wave feature on the endura, does the Military come with a Waved option?

cheers

the Colonel

These 2 knives are BIG! If you are using the knife around even the coolest of sheeple, or in a city, they will freak out... (not that I care). If you have to have a big'n, keep your money at home (USA) and get a Military... I think it's the better knife N E hoo. If you like FRN, don't care to secure jobs in this country and don't NEED a big'n, the Spyderco Centofante III is REALLY nice. All things considered, I'd get the Mil.

You don't need a wave on the Mil... you can grab it by the hole, pull it from your pocket, and with a flick of the wrist, the handle flips open very elegantly... right into your palm... no fumbling or awkwardness. In just practicing to use it, the wave will destroy your pocket.

I have the CF Millie and fully endorse it if you don't think holding on to something almost 10 inches long when open is not too big. I have the G10 on order if that says anything more. The S90V steel on the CF Millie is pretty amazing steel and mine is like a scalpel. The Military is pretty specialized though. The thumb hole is large for gloved hands which is nice for ungloved hands IMHO and the detent is stiff until it works in for a while. And it's tip down, right hand only. When it locks open it sounds like you racked a 1911. Sweet.

If you want to go smaller there are other fine Spyderco options too.

both knives are great, but the milie is a better cutter, and has a better thought design overall
the endura has a stronger tip, not that the military has a weak one...
i have both, and i prefer the military over the endura, any day of the week :D
that said, they do belong in different price range, so even if endura is a great knife, the military is above , both price and quality :D
get both :D

do yourself a favor, and skip the wave. they do not work as well as they have been hyped. regular endura or military would be a better choice.

I think the Military is the better performing knife.

But the wave feature is cool!

You really can't go wrong with either one.

I have a large Sebenza, Benchmade 710, Benchmade Griptilian, Spyderco Caly 3 and a Spyderco Military. The Military is by far my favorite. It's the largest folding knife I have but it's still lighter than some of my other folders and the G10 handles are extra grippy which I love.

hey i live in round rock FWIW!!!

i havent had a big problem with waving messing up my pants, i dont wave it obbsessively though.

and, shame on me, i really dont worry about what folks think about my knives if they are legal, just dont care lol.

now in the workplace, i can understand that, but just out/about, if they are legal i simply dont care, like i said, shame on me lol.

I have both of those and the Military is my favorite of the two, and no they haven't come out with a wave Military yet. You want go wrong either way, so get the one that appeals to you the most.

I purchased a 'waved' Endura to see if I liked the wave feature and see if it works for me. For me the wave works, and I don't find that it destroys my pants any more than a pocket clip does over time. I like the VG-10 on the Endura, it stays pretty sharp and is easy to sharpen. The Endura just does not have the quality feel that the Military has. The scales feel cheaper on the Endura. If I had to choose between an 'Waved' Endura and a Military I would choose a Military. It is probably my next purchase. You could also consider purchasing an Emerson. I would really like to see a 'waved' Military.

Get the Millie and then fill in your Spydie collection around it. I once made the mistake of selling my Millies and now I have replaced my PE S30V Millie and will probably get a S90V for Christmas:)

to wave a millie ya would have to wave it and change the clip to tip up, its tip down IIRC.

and yes the endura feels and looks cheaper its FRN vs the millies G10, or IIRC some were carbon fibre too, but the FRN works great just looks cheap to me.

Huh similar situation for me. I used to have a sebenza, bm 610, bunch of spydercos, and a military. The millie is the only one I have now.

I have 2 Militaries. One in CPM D-2, and one in S90V. Both are great knives.

I can recommend the Military without rerservation, as I carry my S90V Military every day. :p

But I would also recommend that you spend the few extra bucks and get the S90V. I consider it head and shoulders above all other currently available cutlery steels. :):)

Military is one of the Best folders Spyderco makes IMHO. Scary sharp in any edge configuation. Lighter then almost any knife of it's size.Slim profile. Awesome Microtech Style liner lock. I think it's called a leaf lock. But it's hardened steel. I can't think of one thing I don't like about them. Maybe Get someone to Tap it for tip up if you like that but other wise it's almost perfect for the price range. I like Both the D2 and the S3oV. I think personally for me, the S30V was a tiny sharper Out the Box. but D2 and S30V act different anyway. I also really like the BG42 Carbon fiber on New Graham. but the Basic G10 S30V is great. If you have the $ get that first. you can always get a $50 endura waved. You will get the WOW experience when you first open the box and feel how light and sharp the military is. Good thing they stopped printing Military on the blade tough.

If you really want a Wave get an Emerson, Military feel with Wave. No cheap looking/feeling FRN.

The most significant problem with the Military is the size of the cut out for the liner lock. It was not of much concern when carried off duty but was a concer during the time I carried one in the Army. I did not want to inadvertantly have it fold up on me! I traded it for a Sebenza and have never looked back.
