Found one at a local gun show, bought/traded for it with a member of the Chesapeake Bay Knife Club actually. Good deal.

The thing is, I love this knife. It would make a great EDC. But do I want to carry it? Is it a collectible?

Looks like a straight metal handle, doesn't look like the micarta handles I've seen, looks like carbon fiber? I don't think my camera would bring it up that well.

It is black linen micarta on that handle. It is pretty collectible and they are going for almost 100 bucks sometimes on eBay the last few weeks. They haven't been made for a few years. I used to carry one EVERYWHERE and loved it so much. It broke my heart when I wore out the lock on the PE blade :( I sent it back to Spyderco and they couldn't fix it. Thanks for bringing up such a painful memory!

Spyderco is actually coming out with a new run of Micro Dyads pretty soon, so you could save the more collectible one and carry a newer model. Either way, you'll be happy.

About how much did you end up giving for the knife? Just curious!

a Case stainless medium stockman from 1979, no box, in pretty good condition, and 30 bucks. The mini is in great condition, but no box. It actually looks like a stainless steel handle painted black.

I am a very devout fan of all of the Dyad models that Spyderco made. I carry a big C-44 Dyad on a daily basis and I feel with that knife that virtually all my cutting needs required by a folder are fulfilled. I have 2 of those linen Micarta Dyad Juniors and I can't bring myself to carry either one of them. I think the little Micarta version will be a huge collector's winner down the road because I don't think that they made very many of them at all.

Being they are bringing back another small Dyad I truly wish that they would bring back a new improved big version too.

It only makes sense that have one fully serrated blade and one plain edge would be the "cat's Meow". I don't understand why the big or little Dyads didn't take off any better than they did. But like this brother here who just got his first one will tell you that you really need to have one and use one to realize what a prize that they are. LONG LIVE THE DYAD>>~~ all of them:thumbup:

This is great in my opinion. A Spydie muskrat!

I guess I should take it out of my glove box, and put it in the case.

I blame JD Spydo for my urges to actually carry my C44 Dyad. I posted on here when I got it and he was adamant that it should be carried and used, not kept in a safe. When I was cleaning off some dried up white lube, some of my RemOil got on the clip and took off some paint. I said to heck with it and took off all the paint and it looks ok. I carry it around town on my days off. I'm not going to carry it to work because I don't want to mess it up. That's what my CE Endura 3 and SE Delica 3 are for. ;)

"Spyderco is actually coming out with a new run of Micro Dyads pretty soon"

Hi Does anyone have confirmation of this? I had a micro-dyad a few years back it was my favorite spyderco knife. But it got lost in my last house move and i've been wanting a new one ever since. I know the jigged bone versions are available but how about a micarta version? I don't see one listed at their website. I emailed spyderco customer service about it but they haven't replied. The heyday of my knife collecting period was mostly 85-95, i'm only now just starting to get seriously back into collecting. Are there any good online knife retailers forumites can recommend? The only people i dealt with in the past were Cutlery Shoppe and A.G Russell. They are great but certain brands they just don't carry anymore. I need news sources to feed the habit!!!

Here's Spyderco's link to their Sprint Run update with the Micro.

It's gonna be small by my calculations, about the size of a Lady Bug.
It looked like it was gonna come out fairly soon, but someone said recently that it might be March/April, maybe around $100 street price I'm hearing.
Can't wait!
Hope this helps.

CombatGrappler you can blame me all you want. And I will take a big part of the responsibility because I do preach the big C-44 Dyad anytime I get the chance  . Believe me brother it wasn't easy to carry the first one I carried. Because at the time I did I only had 2 of them. But since then I have secured several back up units while they could still be had.

This baby Micarta model the good brother is telling us about is truly the "ULTIMATE GENTLEMEN's KNIFE". Now that is the Dyad I've never been able to carry. I've only got 2 of the Micarta Dyad Jr. and I would have to have at least 2 more before I would fell comfortable using it. I am a firm believer in Back UP UNITS. But the DYAD regardless which variation you have is meant to be used and used hard. You can cuss my name freely but you know deep down in your heart you love that knife now don't you ?

The C-44 big Dyad>> Don't leave home without it

yeah thanks for that spyderco sprint run link! But actually thats the jigged bone version they are talking about. I've seen it listed on a few websites 100$+ U.S. I was actually more interested in the micarta version (which may or may not exist). If that appears i will buy at least 2 so i can keep a spare in reserve.
Weird i just found an online retailer (whom i've never heard of before) that lists the micarta micro-dyad as in stock. MW Reddan Company

http://www.mwreddan.com/cfcart/prod...duct_Selected=Dyad-JR-Lightweight-Model-C39BK

But they also list the buck 120's as being in stock and weren't the 120's discontinued years ago? Anybody here do business with these guys? Are they for real? I hope so. this would be sooo much simpler if spyderco customer service would just reply to the email i sent them.

What they have listed there is the old out of production FRN Dyad Jr. It is a little larger (or at least wider to accomodate larger Spyderholes) than the Micarta version (which is also out of production). Personally, I find the Micarta Dyad Jr. a tad small for serious tasks, but it makes a great little small job cutter, especially around NKP.

The upcoming Micro-Dyad leaves me cold, as I already have a Jester and Ladybug on my keyring if I want a knife that is too small to be useful to me.

Contrary to JD's theory of have 4 before you use 1, I only have one C39 and one C44, and I carry both. But that is well trampled ground between us :D
