I have had my eye on the Mini Manix for a while. I have always heard it being referred to as a tank of a folder. I have a paramilitary which may be my favorite folder. However, I have heard of a couple times where the tip broke off due to some hard cutting tasks. I generally dont use my knives for anything more than everyday chores, but I do notice how thin the tip of the paramilitary is. For those who have one or both, is the tip of the mini manix any thicker?

I have a few Emersons which I love and feel would be a little tougher due to the design and feel of the blade. But love those spydies and just looking for any thoughts on the Mini Manix.

I am not looking for any other suggestions on tough knives, only imput on the Mini Manix and how you think the tip would hold up if it was needed for cutting something a little tougher than what we might run into on an everyday basis.

The Mini-Manix has a distal taper just like the Paramilitary, so while it is a bit wider at the tip, it is no thicker. If by tip breakage you are referring to the last millimeter where the edge bevels meet, yes that part is easy to break off. I've broken that part off of nearly every knife I own at one time or another, as well as uncounted hundreds of utility knife blades. If you are talking about more damage than that, as long as you are cutting and not twisting or prying, I wouldn't worry too much. I've used my Mini-Manix to cut used carpet, drywall, mastic adhesive (dryed), vinyl tile and a host of other things. I don't remember now if it was a drywall screw or concrete that got the last half-millimeter of that tip the first time.

The tip can break off at any blade if you are expecting too much of it.
My friends Endura just did it a week ago

I just ordered an Ocelot over the Mini Manix because of the tip issue. From what I've read, the Ocelot is pretty close in terms of overall strength with the tip being more stout. Something to think about maybe?(I know you weren't looking for suggestions, but it sounds like your concerns was the same as mine)

yablanowitz, thanks for the info. That is what I was basically looking for.

flipe- I will check out the Ocelot

Thanks guys.
