Good day, I have been thinking of buying the Moran, in drop point configeration, as a skinning/ general purpose knife. The handle material has a good write up here on the forum, although it isnt as attractive as say micarta/wood, but I wouldnt buy based on looks over function and I am already a fan of vg10. Does anyone know if the blade is full tang? Any feedback on the Moran models would be appreciated. Thanks Mike.

The blade is not full tang. I would suggest the FB01 if one of your primary reasons for considering this model is skinning. I've been using one for the past 3 years.

Not full tang, but there has never been a complaint since its introduction that I can recall. The Morans have a long and loyal following, IIRC it's the oldest fixed blade in the spyderco lineup since they discontinued their sermollian gripped kitchen knives. Those weren't full tang and had problems, but the handle material was different than on the Moran.

Like that new orange handled drop point...may have to pick that up.

You can't go wrong with any of the Moran FBs. I've used the trailing point Moran many times for skinning deer and wild hogs. It worked great though I suspect the drop point would maybe better still for that chore.

amen. Can't go wrong, but nothing wrong with the trailing point, imo.

I've often thought that the Morans were severely overlooked by the general hunting crowd. A knife with VG-10 and such a comfortable handle, an amazing slicer in my experience. You just can't find a better knife in that price range (although some of the Scandi knives are close).

Even though I had both versions (one of the first runs with the leather Sheath) I had to buy that orange handled one too.

Heck of a knife. I have both and use the trailing point the most, albeit in the kitchen:)
