I have gotten hold of a Spyderco multitool, Has a typical Spyderco blade , with slip-joint pliers AND an adjustable wrench . . .and bunch of other functional stuff.

Someone has told me that it is a desirable collectable.

What is it and how desirable is it?

Would add a picture but can't figure that out.

Try using something like Imgur to post links to images. That'll be the best way to get help from people here.

It pretty much has to be the SpydeRench from his description. There were two runs of the 'Rench. The first was made in Golden, has a 440C blade and the diamond file has a straight screwdiver on one end and a #1 Phillips on the other. The second run was made in Taiwan, has an AUS 8 blade, a better magnet for bit retention and a round tip in place of the #1 Phillips. The #1P/round tip also serves as a detent to lock the tool shut.

Both versions are fairly rare, as they were quite expensive to make so not many were produced. These days, they might even fetch original MSRP or more at auction.

So I looked. The blade is marked "Spyderco USA 440C"

This item is mint-In-The-Box; I am not going to fool around with it to check out the file/screw dricer feature and risk scratching it up . From this I gather that it is from the first run. Which version is more rare or more desirable as a collectable?

A Few Days Later:
And now we know. . .the auction went off at $300 with one bidder. We have a new real-world valuation for this model.

Thank you everyone for your helpful input.

They vary back and forth, but most likely the one you have is at the high end of rarity and desirability. If you are interested in recent sale values, I'd suggest going over to eBay and looking at recently sold auctions. You can also get a gold membership here and ask us.
