This past Sunday I went to our local county fair with my SWMBO and had a pleasant time. It was extra nice as she has been going thru treatment for breast cancer for most of the past year and is finally getting her strength back. This was the first major "expedition" for her in months, but she had a good time and with rests, was able to stay out for several hours. One of the nicer highlights was the stop at the Spyderco booth in onr of the exhition halls. We looked at the nice displays and then asked the pretty young lady behind the counter for help. She was very helpful and REAL cheerful, I mentioned that I'd recently gotten a "yin/yang" Cricket from Patti at Ironstone (Hawaii) and she had said to say "HI". Well it turned out that this was Sal Glesser's daughter!! She was every bit as cordial as her Dad and helped us pick out a couple of kitchen knives and a new model Sharpmaker. I'm embarressed to report that her name escapes me at the moment(senior moment) and so must apologize to her. But my poor memory takes nothing from her, a very nice young woman and a credit to her family and Spyderco.
As we were walking down the aisle , my wife remarked on the pleasant exchange and I told her that almost without exception, that is the standard behaviour of most knife people (in my experience); she was impressed and said so. And THAT is a BIG DEAL, guys. She is a very good judge of quality and character (except for me!!)

Brian - than you very much. You make a dad proud. Christina was 2 years old when she "worked" her first Del Mar Fair in 1975. The Sharpmaker was introduced there in '79 and the Clipit in '82.

Glad your SWMBO is doing well. Appreciation is always a high.

Hi Brian~
Glad you found your way down to the product show. A nice outing for your wife. I'm sure she saw a lot of things she would have liked to take home with her, right? She will be very happy with the Spyderco kitchen knives. VERY SHARP!!

Yes, Christina is a sweetheart. Very knowledgable and a pleasure to be around. Thank you for forwarding on her greetings.
Oh, BTW....Autumn is now officially out of the doghouse now that I know your yin-yang arrived safely

Thanks again to you Sal, Christine and Patti. Reaffirms my faith in humanity, we can be a hard species to like some times

Tom,
the Cricket shape already looks similar to the Taoist symbol, which is the black and white curving into and around each other in a circle, with a white dot in the black field and a black one in the white field. The Cricket has been altered with pearl and jet, to look like the yin/yang. It's quite nice looking and I've been looking for one for some time, finally scored, thanks to Patti.
