Just got my Spyderco Native 4 Carbon Fiber the other day. Opened it up and was immediately impressed. Very smooth knife. Opens great, locks up tight. Came tip-up which is just the way I like it.

Feels perfect in hand. Very sleek and slim. Perfect EDC knife.

The Carbon fiber is smooth and looks great!

The pocket clip works excellent.

It is a lock back which I prefer a liner-lock or frame-lock because it's easier to close one handed, but this lock-back works pretty well, just have to use 2 hands to close it. Not a big deal, everything else makes up for it.

VG-10 was razor sharp out of box....but upon closer inspection I found a piece of steel that had been balled up on the tip....Quality control should have caught this and sold as a blem or went through the grinder again...But it wasn't anything my Lanksy diamond stones couldn't fix.

I really like the Spydie Hole! I think it works much better than a thumb stud.

A MUST HAVE for any knife enthusiast.

And to the pics....

I've got an older Native in SS that someone gave me, and I love it. I've been eyeballing the CF model for a while, thanks for posting. The pics helped me get off the fence.

Nice! I love new blade grind. Old natives grind has always turned me off that particular knife. I just wish they would have made deep riding clip for it... Still great improvement over older native IMHO.

Good pictures, thanks for the post. You did a good job on the blade. You said teh CF scales are smooth. Does it have enough grip or is it too slick?

BTW, you can close it one handed. Depress lock bar with thumb and use index finger in hole to close.

The CF scales are smooth as butter, meaning not very much grip, but I wouldn't go as far as saying they are slippery. They ergos of the handle give you a pretty nice hold on it.

I wouldn't use this knife as a tactical knife though because of the smooth scales.

I've been opening and closing it for about 5 hours now and got a good tech. on closing it one handed.

What are the shims you're using with the Lansky in the above pic and/or where did they come from?

Hi swmp4L -

Nice review and pictures - thank you for taking time to post this.

That would be a piece of masking tape to protect the finish of the blade.
D'oh! (I was hoping for something more high-tech) :p

I've always had trouble getting tapered blades centered in the Lansky, but that's another thread...

Thanks for the info (and review, the CF native is on my "short list")!

Cheers,

Nice looking knife, nice review. I have been wanting one of those for a while now! I see more times than not when I, or others, have to fix something wrong with a knife that you/we have paid a good dollar for. It happens to me all the time. I'm sick of it because it seems to be ok with everyone, manufactuers included. Case knives with there blade play are frequent ofenders. But hey...... it's only our money and their reputation.

I agree on the grind. I have an older Native 3D that has a great feel to it, but I just don't like the hollow grind. This new one with the flat ground blade looks awfully nice....
