I bought one of these at Walmart this week. Is this the Native or the Native III? If not, what is the difference , and should I keep it or return it? I am a newbie, and I am confused as to which one is the best or the most current model.

The walmart native is one of the best bang for the buck knives out there. Premium, top of the line steel and spyderco quality for forty bucks is hard to beat.

do a search, and see for yourself. :)

keep it. or give it to me ;)

welcome to the forums

I have to agree. I saw one at Walmart, tonight and had to get it.
Great price for such a high qulaity blade. The FRN and rivits aren't my favorite, but it makes an perfect user.
Keep It!!

It is not the native III. Nevertheless, you have a keeper! Opinions vary on what is good(or best), but you won't be dissapointed. I picked up a Wallyworld Spydie as well, and enjoy it immensely. FRN handles are quite good, they may 'nick' up, but are very durable. Now just watch that edge, it's a wee bit sharp.;)

Thanks for the comments, but no one has yet mentioned which is the newest model, or if both models are still current, or even what is the DIFFERENCES between them!

Handle and bladesteel are different. Clip as well, IIRC.

Not sure which would be considered the "newest" or why that would matter. If you mean are they discontinued, I don't think either one has been.

I believe the Native and Native III are both current production. One of the differences being that one is made in Japan and the other in the USA.

I bought a Native at Waleye Mart this past weekend. It's a first rate American made Spyderco. Definetly the most bang for the buck.

The WM Native is American made, has an S30V blade and a regular black clip.

The Native III is made in Japan, has a VG-10 blade and a wire clip.

The handles on both are FRN, but the Native is a bit flatter than the Native III. Both steels are excellent, and I really don't care about clips as long as they hold the knife, so the reason why I chose the Native III is because the handle is more comfortable in my hand, which is a very personal thing. I don't mind the little extra bulk, as my right pocket is there just for my knife, I carry nothing else in it.

I would like the wire clip to be black, though.
