Hello everyone!

I've wanted Spyderco Native ever since I saw one in Catalogue in later 90's. I don't know why but I haven't gone get one yet. I've tried to like new Native with S30V blade but the swedge on that S30V are so ugly that I haven't been able to buy one. The new Native 5 hasn't been released yet but it looks so good though...

But I found little used Native III with VG-10 with beautiful swedges (unlike S30V) around price of Tenacious. And Native III has wire clip :D. So I am going to pull trigger on native FINALLY!

Finally, quest that I started over 10 years ago, will finally come to an end. I am happy person right now :D

Congrats ..
I have a Native III .. It was my intro to Spyderco knives and I absolutely love it.

the native 3D is my home EDC, because is very light, and most of the time clipped to whatever clothes I'm wearing.
It has seen some use over the last few years, and is still going strong

I was hoping that the native 4 would be a native 3 with a ffg blade with swedge.
oh well can't have everything

Me too!

I'm really disappointed in the way the Native has evolved. The 4 and 5 barely resemble the orginal runs. Seems like every folder Spyderco makes these days in an Endura/Military/Tenacious clone, which are all pretty much the same design with slightly different steels and handle materials. The Native seems to lose a little of its' uniqueness every generation.

Of course, every once in a while they throw in something "different" like the Navaja or Rock Lobster for a little variety. ;)

However, the 3 remains, thus far, the pinnacle of Native development, in my opinion.

Do it, Do it! Although I have a Native 4 and looking forward to the new Native 5. But you seem jazzed about the III, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Maybe we could try for a sprint run, native 4 blade with a native 3 handle would be the ultimate.
As all the parts and machining are already known factors it could be a win for Spyderco as well.

I would definitely be in for at least two.

Same here. I think it was something like $35 or $39 at the time at the brick and mortar Walmart near me. I was handling all the knives they had in stock and when I got to the Native, the difference in quality and ergonomics was so vast I instantly knew I would be leaving with one. Then when I got home and started cutting stuff with it, I was blown away again with how well it cut through some pretty tough stuff.

Now about 10 Spydercos later, I don't use my old Walmart Native much any more but I still keep it for sentimental reasons and I see it has actually increased a bit in value. Amazing knife for the modest cost back when Walmart carried them.

Currently I'm enjoying a EDCing a Caly 3.5 or Endura 4 FFG, and have a PM2 on order (back ordered).

The Native series are one of my favorite designs. I've had so many in different configurations and steels (440V and S30V Natives), that I've lost count. Same with the Militaries I've had. I even had a couple of the black bladed Natives, and a Native with a really nice custom flat grind by Tom Krein. My sisters ex boyfriend needed a good knife for his job in a hardware store, and I gave him that one. My little brother has a Native from me, and it is one of his favorites. Friends, knife people and non knife people both, have bought theirs based on using mine. I hate the swedge grinds on the original Native, but it is one of my favorite basic designs. I also have a Native III, which is a great user. I carry my Native IV sometimes, and want to pick up a Native 5.

Sal, I really want you to bring back the Starmate. I have a big appetite, so what about a large, 3.5" blade Native?
