I got this knife in a trade today, and am pretty happy with it. It isn't too heavy and it feels pretty heavy duty. It slips easily into and out of my pocket, and once in isn't overly conspicuous. The black clip really helps. The handles are nice and grippy, the only downside being the imperfectly shaped finger choil.

The blade is made of S30V steel, and sharpened up on the sharpmaker quickly and easily to a shaving sharp edge. I haven't had much use with it yet, but it seems like a nice, heavy duty blade with a good stabbing edge. It definitely isn't the best slicer I've ever used, but it's serviceable. The blade grind is pretty unique and makes for a nice dagger point (don't pay attention to the orientation of the blade in this picture, it's been flipped).

The thumb hole is, as often noted, partially covered by the handle, but I don't find this to be much of a problem. It is plenty exposed enough to flick open or to smoothly and slowly open. Well, maybe not too smoothly. Even after a few drops of 3-in-1, the blade doesn't open amazingly smooth, nor amazingly fast, but with a good hard flick of the thumb it opens and locks securely. In a slow, controlled opening, it isn't the easiest to open or close, but certainly not the worst. There is minor blade play front to back, to be expected from a pinned and lockback knife, but nothing serious. Overall I'm pretty happy with the trade, and for the price I wouldn't hesitate to buy this knife.

Nice review. I especially like your last photo.

Why do you say the finger choil is imperfect?

As you can see in the first picture, the finger choil isn't a perfect half circle. The section that is incorporated with the blade is, but that upper part of the handle is basically just flat. This makes the choil not a perfectly round circle, and so isn't as comfortable as it could be imo.

By the way, this is not Native3, this is C41 Native, IMHO the best US made knife on the market, which you can buy for $40. S30V is a great steel.

I'm not too up on my Spyderco models, sorry about that. Now that I see the Native III, the differences in the handle are obvious.

Native3 has also different blade and blade steel, made in Japan. Many people love it as well.
But Native4 is my favorite. Amazing knife. All Natives have great ergos.

.....agreed, all are good.....unfortunately the newest CF Native 4 is not in my budget. I think there will be a FRN Native 4 eventually, priced, I hope, more in line with with my meager income. ;)

What was once known as the "Wally-World Native," or the American made variant with S30V/FRN, is an excellent knife. Congratulations on your score.
