So, been using my native a lot lately at the archaeology site (absolutely love it!). I got just a bit of dirt in it the other day and so I decided to clean it. Now, since it is a pin construction and I cant take it apart to dry each individual piece, im really anal about washing it with water if I can help it so I used a bit of mineral oil in a syringe and tried to flush out the dirt that way. That worked fairly well but I got a bit overzealous with the oil and now everytime I open my knife It has large ammounts of oil around the finger choil and on the blade. Ive tried wiping out all the parts as best I could, but I just end up wiping it up again after I open it back up. Im afraid of it getting too gunked up and was wondering if anyone had a good suggestion for cleaning up a bit more of the oil.

I dont know if it is an option, but I use compressed air to clean out all of my spyderco's, I'd rather not take my back locks apart, so I just blow air between the liners, lock, and piviot with the blade both open and closed.
works great every time.

Yes, quit being so anal. Use soap, or better yet dish detergent, and hot water. Hold it under the tap and wash it out good. Work the lock and move the blade while you're washing it. Unless you're in the kind of climate where orchids thrive and people wilt, a good shake or two will be all it needs afterward.

Put it in a sock, tie a knot in the top and throw it in the washing machine next time you wash some clothes. Think I'm kidding don't you. My Calypso Jnr has been through the machine a couple of times, came out looking like it had just left the factory. A few drops of Tuff Glide on the pivot and it's like brand new, or better.
