I've been looking into getting a Native for a good while now, but the S30V issues have kept me away. I would be getting the mostly serrated (except for the last 1.5 cm) comboedge Native. Any negative experiences with the blade in this area?

S30V issues? S30V is an excellent steel for small folders...
i would highly recommend the native, its a great knife... but if you absolutely hate it in S30V you can pick up a new one in 440A for around 25 bucks on ebay. the spyderco native 'first generation' serrated knives are all over there. the blade has '1st generation BRK' on it but can be sanded off with a fine grit paper.

Well, I use VG10 and it's one of my favorites (along with D2). One of the reasons I'm attracted to the Native is the S30V, just to see for myself and to have that variant in my small collection. I'm wondering how the serrations will affect the chipping...serrations usually last a lot longer, but in this case, I'm not sure.

I don't think there have been any cases so far where a problem has not been taken care of, so at worse you will have to get a replacement.

i've had a S30V SE native for about a year & a half now (probably more) & i have used it a lot, many times on things that shouldn't be cut eith a knife :o
even so, the knife is still in like new condition, no chips, no dents.
the S30V is a superb steel, issues can happen with any steel, nothing is perfect, but the better the steel (or hype) the greater the fuss i suppose.
