Got one of these in the mail today, and I'm impressed. My initial impression was that it was smaller than I had expected, but this may be because my hands are fairly large and because of the way the grip is configured on the knife. Fit and finish is exemplary, especially for the price-point.

This is my first Zytel Spyderco, believe it or not. I'd been concentrating on high-end production knives, so I hadn't much considered picking one up, but there was one up for sale at a price I couldn't pass up, figured it would make a good user. As it turns out, it's much more than I expected.

It's a no-frills solid working knife, very functional design. All the features taken as a whole, I'd say it (and it's Spyderco Zytel brethren) pretty much embodies what a working pocketknife should be.

- Lightweight (very easy to carry)
- Easy clip reversal/removal
- Easy to operate front-lock
- Rock solid lock-up, no discernable play (although I have yet to use it)
- Great traction grooves on the top of the handle for good blade control
- Design allows for great grip security
- Premium steel (S30V, no less)
- Boye dent reduces possibility for accidental lock disengagement
- Affordable! (i.e. won't kill you if it's lost/confiscated/broken/eaten/etc.)

The Zytel doesn't feel cheap to me at all, mostly because the molded pattern on the handle is done well.

The only "con" I could see was that the handle design doesn't allow for much flexibility in how you hold the knife as compared to a handle on something like the Delica. The opening hole isn't entirely exposed in the closed position, although it isn't much of a problem.

I have a feeling it'll be living in my pocket for a while. Will definitely be buying Spyderco in the future. :D

Also thought I'd add that I'm getting none of the flex that people talk of in the handle when referring to unlined Zytel handles. The scales are as thick as the blade on the Native. This the case for the Delica as well?

Neat review SP :)
It mirrors my feel for the Native which is my fav edc. A real workhorse.

I don't have a comparison with a Delica.
