i`m thinking of buying a spyderco native next thursday , and i was wondering if you guys think this is a good knife? i want a really good spyderco but don`t want to spend a fortune.

I have one and it's a good knife for the money. Bought it at wally-world. It is a good first Spyderco knife for general use.

Good solid knife. Great price. If it fits your hand and your needs, it's hard to beat. Besides, if you don't like it, it's easy to return.

I like the native and have used one a lot, but I would recommend a new delica 4 instead. For the money, I like new delicas much better.

Don't know what the C78 is going for these days, but I certainly like mine. The 3D handle makes extended chores a breeze on the hand which suffers no fatigue from it's use. Don't know if they are cheaper than the Wally-World C41, but it's a personal preference thing anyway. I own both, and with a few exceptions the C78 it about the only non-hawkbill I use. I'm also a fan of VG-10 so much that I've yet to have the desire to try S30V.

ok guys , thanks for the opinion , looks like i`m going the native 3d . being a collector i`ll end up getting both eventually when i can afford them. i know this was off topic for the sog forum , but i wanted the opinions of the sog forum people as well.

The Native is a good knife for the money. But be warned, it is only the beginning. You will soon be looking at some of their better models. Say goodbye to your money.

i already have a harpy , a ladybug , and a byrd flight , so this won`t be my first spyderco and certainly won`t be my last.

i`m actually going to buy a native with stainless steel handle in aus 10 steel with a combo edge , or the same knife but with a plain edge . does the fact that it has aus 10 mean its old stock?

No that is the current steel used in that knife. I'm sure they will update it one of these days.:)

ok , thanks mate . i can`t decide between the stainless steel handle or the frn handle . i really like the stainless steel handle , but the frn is also good , and has more grip.

Get the Native III - it's a real winner! (If you want stainless handle _and_ VG10 blade, choose the Scorpius. It's a real killer... ;) )

I got a Native from Wal-Mart when I was in 'Vegas a few weeks ago. The one I went to only had one:mad: Definitely no regrets for the price:D I also have a blue FRN/Native III. Both are pretty nice. In comparing, I think I like the Native/S30V for EDC type stuff, but would want the Native III if I needed to exert more pressure.

I'm looking forward to the SS Native once I figure out where it fits on my "to get" list. The problem is the list is growing faster than I can afford them:D .

I bought a WalMart Native and I've EDC'ed it nearly every day since. When I sharpen I leave the blade "toothy" which works great for around the house usage - opening the mail, removing plastic wrap from food, cutting a piece of twine in the garden, breaking down cardboard boxes, etc. I never polish the blade for push cutting (like whittling) because I have dedicated knives for that purpose.

Better hurry, they are becoming in short supply.
