Hi all!

I am bit confused now with all different Spyderco native's there are available. I am looking now perhaps to buy Spyderco Native FRN C78PBK which has FRN handles and VG-10 blade.

But I also heard there was model with S30V blade.

But $45 seems to be reasonable price from Spyderco Native III with VG-10 blade? VG-10 after all is not poor steel.

Yes its a good price.

The Native is a great knife for the money. I bought one for a friends birthday and I "played" with it for a few days prior to giving it up.

I'm about to order on for myself!

I was confused myself.

Native (C41) - Made in CO, USA. Textured FRN handle, hollow ground CPM-S30V blade, 2.65 oz (often called Native Lightweight)

Native III (C78) - Made in Seki City, Japan. Textured FRN handle, hollow ground VG-10 blade, 2.8 oz (It's a tiny bit bigger and fatter than the C41 Native, enough that I can tell the difference)

Native 4 (C41CF) - Made in Seki City, Japan. Polished CF handle, full flat ground VG-10 blade, 3.2 oz (A FRN version of the Native 4 is still in the works in CO, USA, but it's not out yet.)

These three models are currently in production and available. 2009 Spyderco Forum Native (Native Lightweight FRN handle, FFG CPM-S30V blade was too limited to make into the list) My favorite is the regular FRN Native. Light EDC choice with S30V. :) The FRN Native 4 may trump it, only if it keeps the weight off.

I like the SS handled model, too. Nice and thin.

I am anxiously awaiting the next USA made Native... The last one was nice, but I'm sure the new one will be an upgrade! The Japan made ones are nice though with the 3D handle and the actually usable choil. One of the things I did not particularly like about the last US version was the straight angle/corner created by the handle where it net the blade in the choil... that and I wish the blade sat further in the handle when closed.

I like the native because I can really lock into the knife. VG-10 is not a bad steel at all, I think it's the perfect EDC steel IMO. The Native 3 has smooth gymping that my thumb slides right over. And the new egro curves on the scales make it fat, unlike the native with flat scales. The native 3's wire clip is much stronger then the native's though.

I'd get both. But I had to choose one or the other, I'd go with the native.
