ok guys so i picked up my spyderco native 3 for 80 dollars at my local army store the blade has some verticle play i was looking it up on the website forum and apearently this is normal for spyderco mid lockbacks (natives, enduras and delicas)??? any feedback.

Yep, normal. The only Spyderco lock backs I've ever handled that didn't have this slight vertical nudge are the SS models. I think it's common for the FRN models because the liners shift slightly in the nested FRN scales.

hmm, I've never noticed any, I'll have to go take a look at all my spydie lockbacks. Have my large Goddard in pocket now and it has no vertical play, though.

I just checked mine and there is no play in any direction. I got mine at Walmart a few years ago. It's the best thing I ever bought there.

My endura 3 has all kinds of up-down and side-to-side blade play. I took this to be normal for these knives.

"Normal" is a tricky term. I would instead say that, for Spyderco midlocks a slight amount of vertical play, most times only noticeable when one bears down on the handle while cutting, is considered by them to be within tolerances. However it is not something all Spyderco midlocks, or all specimens of a given midlocks will display, or that everyone will notice even if it is present.

I do not have any noticeable vertical play in my 2 Kopas, 2 Kiwis, Caly 3, or Rookie.

I have a Native 3 as well, and it does have a little bit of vertical play in it when you bear down on the handle...makes a slight clicking sound.

Nearly all mid lock backs have slight vertical play. It is normal. As stated in an early post the SS models have less. Don't know why.

Almost all my spydies are solid. my regular Delica 4 (the beater knife) had small up and down blade play. I disassemble and reassembled it, it ended there. Today I had to clean my Delica 4 for dropping it in salt water and I had to disassemble and reassemble knife again for scrupping, cleaning and oiling and preventing rusting. It had small up and down blade play again. This time I used method I've used to Fix my Buck knives: very small drop grazy blue on need and carefully apply it on lock's tip very thinly let it dry: voilá lock is solid as mountain. However this might be temporary thing. Has worked for me though.

Absolutely no play/movement whatsoever on mine. any of my Spyderco's for that matter.

I'm carrying my FFG Endura today, and it has no blade play at all, neither do my FFG Delicas. The only lock back Spyderco that I had with play was a CF Caly 3.

thank you for you feed back ill presume that its normal in midlock frn's i quess if you want a spydie you just have to get use to this as an average thing... it just the price you pay for having something so great :o
