I was able to take part in the pass-around of the Spyderco Navaja.
Spyderco is probably my favorite knife company, and I was really excited to get my hands on this one.

After a week with the knife these are my thoughts. Link.

It's beautiful, and has several strong features, but as a practical tool it leaves much to be desired.

There's too much "L'art pour l'art" in this knife design. It looks cool, but it's not practical.
Oh well. Spyderco is allowed to slip up. And it's still nice knife jewelry. ;)

Nice vid. Your review brings up the exact things that I thought just by looking at the knife, and are the reasons why I have not, and will not buy one.

Thanks for the review. I find most "ethnic" designs to be questionable users. I do like the Chokwe though, but I'd still carry a millie over it.

I've never touched the knife, so my opinion is useless, but as a general rule when I see a design that is pretty far outside the norm, I tend to think that it is more form than substance. That is to say, different not because different is better, but just to be different. Can't say that about this knife as I've never played with it, but thats my bias when I see something like this or the Chokwe, for example. Guilty until proven innocent. JMO.

I do have the knife, and I love playing with it. But when I need to cut something, I reach for my Para 2 or my Manix 2. So I have to agree that this knife has more "show" than other Spydies. I have no doubt it will tackle all the cutting jobs I may have but I still consider it as a collectible and less as a user.
