This is a current pass-around knife

I really enjoyed this knife, much more than I was thinking I would. The blade shape and hollow grind and overall size of this knife make it very versatile for a working EDC. I have no complaints about the VG10 steel ( I have come to love VG10 lately), good edge retension and resists chipping (which is becoming a pet peeve of mine with s30v) and it's easy to sharpen to a very sharp edge, plus I like the visable grain pattern in the steel when you look at the right angle. The handle is comfortable in all the grips that I used it in and the finger choil and thumb ramp are fantastic. The lock back was nice and solid and with the dent very confidence inspiring, together with just the right sized Spyder hole it all makes for easy one handed open/closing without having to really think agout what you are doing. As usual the G10 scales are super grippy (but they do chew on your pocket) and the tip up or down clip is a nice thing to have, which I think should be on all folders when at all possable. The whole thing was very natural feeling and well thought out, typical Spyderco ergo's and usefulness. I took a bunch of pics and a few with a Para Military and large classic Sebenza for size comparisons.

Nice review and great pictures too.

I might have to get an Ocelot, but I'm really not that wild about the "paw prints".

Thanks. I wasn't crazy about the paw prints either, just having seen pics of it, but once in hand it gives the knife a bit more character and it adds to the G10's already fantastic grip and texture. One of those things that you can't really tell until you have it in hand and see ot up close. Thats one of the things that makes the pass-arounds great to participate in.

I just got this in the mail, and I have to say I like the pawprints better in person than I did in pictures. The only downside immediately apparent is that they're visually obvious as little lint/dust/etc magnets when you look up close and personal - I'm thinking they're going to make a lightly carried knife look more world-weary than it would with plain G-10.

But I'm glad to see something that's functional and yet not cookie cutter.

MadDaddy, is that still the factory edge that's popping hair off my arm, or did you touch it up after you played with it? If it's not factory then you've got a VERY nice hand, sir.

Thanks for the review and photos

I think that the paw prints look good. Would rather have blaze orange colored G10 for a hunting knife though.

Yup, thats still the factory edge, love that VG10 steel.

Just ordered a PC Ocelot - waiting for the brown truck in a couple days. I read this review after ordering it, and I'm pleased I'm not the only one who has the same opinions about S30V vs. VG-10. Give me VG-10 over S30V any day - I traded away all my S30V knives. Loved the ergonomics of my Paramilitarys, but couldn't stand the chips, difficulty in sharpening, etc. I can get VG-10 shaving sharp even after I've dulled the hell out of it. Can't seem to do it with S30V...:barf:
