Spyderco on "Good Eats"

Well, I saw a Spyderco on TV last night. It was NOT used in a fight scene, to cut a gas line or removed from a perp on one of those live cop shows.

It was used to harvest a head of lettuce!

My wife and I were flipping through the channels last night and settled on the Food Network. The show was called "Good Eats" I believe and the host was walking down a row of lettuces. He stooped, whipped out a pocket knife and, below the camera, opened it with one hand. Next thing I know he's cutting a head of lettuce and bringing it up for the camera. Immediately my eyes were glued to the TV, trying to see what he was using...

He went and cut another head and inadvertently kept the knife up long enough for all to see. It looked like a stainless handled Delica or Worker, possibly an Endura - not sure.

Another point for the benign utilitarian use of a one-hander on television!

i get a laugh every time i read one of these posts. i thought it was just me, jumping to the edge of the couch at the glipms of a knife "oooh what was that?". always satisfying when you recognise the brand, even better when its one of your favorites.
glad im not the only one who gets a kick out of small sightings. i also keep my eye out for kites on tv. there just about as hard to spot as a good knife, sometimes youll catch a glymps of something neat in the background on some beach scene. as the really neat stuff is usually custom made, sometimes you recognise a particullar kite, and know its owner. small world, this earth.

'Till next time,
Rich the kite guy

The Wife uses her Spyderco-Herbst to harvest the squash that grew in a completely unintentional bumper crop when we planted a lawn out front. Don't know where the squash seeds come from. And I don't even like squash!

It is just good to hear about somebody being seen using a knife for everyday work. Even among us knife lovers, there is too much emphasis on knife fighting etc. So one can imagine how non-knife lovers view knives. We should just be great when somebody is see actually using a knife in a legitimate constructive manner.

Yes, I, too, often jump to attention at even an unexpected glimpse of a knife on TV or in the movies. In fact, there are some movies now where I expect to have a knife sighting somewhere.
It's great seeing a knife in a benign use. On TV I've seen Spydercos, SAKs, Buck 110s, a Gerber L.S.T., etc., in utility use. On one of the Believe it or Not segments (is that canceled?) there was a guy with an Endura helping a stunt driver prepare.
The advantage of a Spydie, of course, it the hole!!! Remember the lifeboat scene in Titanic where they were opening their jackknives with their teeth???
