Hey everyone, just a heads up to those that use the OPFOCUS program:
Seems due to abuse of the program, customers will now be limited to a maximum of 10 knife purchases annually.

I never really bought more than 3 or 4 annually so no issues for me, but just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

Just received the email too.

I guess some people were buying knives in quantity and flipping them. If so, that's a shame but it shouldn't matter for most of us who just buy a single knife of each new release at a time.

Personally, I think it would be easier to just suspend/restrict the OpFocus privileges of those who are/were abusing the program.

Should be pretty obvious who those people are OR by just restricting the number of knives of a specific model that can be purchased rather than limiting everyone to 10 knives/year because Spyderco releases far more than 10 new models each year.

But, it is what it is. I've never bought more than 10 knives under the program in a year. So, it should have no effect on me.

First and foremost, thank you @Sal Glesser for offering this program to those that serve, or have served.
It says a lot about your personal and company values.

I have always been humbled and honored to be a participant in OpsFocus and similar programs. The changes to OpsFocus are still generous. Thank you sincerely.

As for me, I did not find out about the program until recently, after most of my collection was already acquired. D-oh! I’m a slow learner, I guess. ;)

As for anyone abusing the program for profit or other purposes, you dishonor whatever uniform you wear (or once wore). I have much stronger comments for you, abuser, but will forbear in an attempt to leave only shiny footprints in this part of the forum.

That is great news.
I am signed up for the program but have yet to purchase anything because as soon as anything new is put up in the Spyderco store it is that quickly gone.

In hindsight, the reason why so many new releases sell out so fast on Spyderco's website has to be because of the "abusers" buying up all of the available stock, because who "in their right mind" would buy SO MANY knives from Spyderco at FULL MSRP? :(

So, now that they are limited to just 10 of whatever release they want to buy for the YEAR, that should make it easier for the rest of us to at least get ONE of the new releases that we've been waiting to buy. :)

BTW, this is the reason that I think that the new 10 knife/yr "rule" is still unfair to the rest of us. The "ABUSERS" can still collectively buy up a popular new release at 10 at a time and leave nothing for the rest of us.

On the other hand, if/when they do that, they're done and we don't have to worry about them for the rest of the year but I think it would be better just to ban/suspend them from the OpFocus program to begin with.

If ANYONE is buying more than 1-2 knives of a particular release, there is NO DOUBT they are buying to flip them and they should be BANNED w/o remorse.

Just my 2 cents . . .

PS: I'd really be interested to find out how many OpFocus members bought up quantities of the Bombshell and Swayback recently for $200/$195 and have or are still trying to sell what they bought for $400+ each on BF, EB and other public sites.

Any OpFocus member who has been doing that is a POS IMO and should be BANNED from the OpFocus Program IMMEDIATELY!!!!

Again, just my 2 cents but that doesn't make my opinion "wrong."

PS: If you are a "serious" Spyderco collector and want to buy more than 10 new releases in a year, you can still join the Collector's Club which entitles and OBLIGATES you to buy one of EVERY knife issued w/in certain limits depending on which club category you select (just heard that there were 62 new knives already released this yr and there have been over 100 new knives released in past years) BUT I'm not sure if the OpFocus discount is applicable to the Collector's Club because (last I heard) you have to receive delivery & pay for Collector Club knives thru an authorized dealer at full MSRP.

Never checked to see if OpFocus members were exempt from this Collector Club requirement because I don't want to buy every release to begin with, even at 50% off MSRP.

Collector Club members "usually" receive their knives before others but, since they have to buy pretty much everything, you often see the #'d knives that they don't want, offered for resale pretty quickly after release but this is different than the OpFocus "flippers" who buy multiples of a likely popular release and in order to profit from it.

4mer_fmf hit the nail on the head. The program is there for a reason to not be abused. That’s why a lot of programs like this go away. Thank you for all you do!

I totally support this new policy. I could live with 6 per year.
Shame on those who take advantage of Sal's generosity, and put the program at risk for regular, ethical service members.

I appreciate the opportunity to splurge a little on knives that I wouldn't have normally purchased, in the the past.
Thanks again. Ret MSgt W.

So, I just bought 2 knives that I've been thinking about buying for quite awhile in order to get in under the Aug 4th deadline.

Not sure how many knives I've bought under the program this year. Pretty sure it's less than 10 including these 2 knives but I'd have to dig out all of my records to be certain.

If it's 10 or more, that's all I'll be able to buy under the program for the rest of the year til Jan 1st but, as it stands now, there are no other knives that I really want to buy, except maybe a set of throwing knives just for the heck of it.

Spyderco doesn't provide a way to check your prior orders online which would be a good thing to add to the website, since there will now be an annual limit on purchases for OpFocus members.

In any event, I just bought a Jumpmaster2 (to pair w/my Jumpmaster1) and a Serrata which is the last fixed blade knife currently offered that I had any interest in buying.

Also just picked up an early version of a used/fixed blade Lum Tanto (solid black pre-green/burgundy scales) off of the Exchange.

No box but the price was right and it came w/an extra kydex sheath. A little time under the polishing wheel removed some minor scratches on the blade. So, the knife looks "like new" now.

Gotta update my knife inventory list to see exactly how many knives generally and Spydercos specifically that I currently own.

Depsite the limit, my Spyderco collection continues to grow. :)

I got the email too and am very appreciative of the discount Spyderco offers through this program. It’s not surprising to hear that there has been abuse of this program, if you watch the sales forum with any regularity, you know it exists. Sad to see people taking advantage of it.

Never signed up for the program, so I've never taken advantage of it. I can't see how anyone who has can legitimately complain about the number of items being "reduced" to ten annually. Seems more than generous to me.

I'm not eligible for the program anyway but I can tell you that I sometimes buy two, even three exact duplicates of a knife that I really like just to ease anxiety of losing it or using it up without being able to replace it in the future. One dealer I buy from has given me loyalty discounts on knives and the concern has actually crossed my mind that they could think I was buying multiples just to flip them when I legitimately am buying them just to keep as spares.

When you go to check out, there is a question they always ask you to answer that says “how many knives do you own?” If you reset to 0 and just add to it every time you buy knives off Spyderco.com, it might be an easy way to keep track, and just reset it every year.

Yeah 10 is plenty . I just recently signed up. Wasn’t even aware they offered a discount to military . Haven’t used it as of yet. Just waiting on some of the newer configurations / models to show up . Lame that there are folks that abuse the Program.

10 is more than enough. I have yet to use the program but I’m not even buying ten folders a year in general at this point. In fact the only new knife I’ve bought this year is a swayback at map and I’m loving it.

Thanks Sal and spyderco for even implementing this program to begin with.

Wife is a first responder and an OpsFocus member. She's never purchased more that 2 per year. 10 is plenty. People always want to take advantage of a good thing and screw it up.

We both fully support Spyderco's decision. This is a generous program and my wife is thankful to Spyderco for it. (Sorry to say that her duty knife is a local mid-tech and not a Spyderco, but she has told me she could easily carry a Spydie Chef. She like Ti frame locks.)

Sal and company are the best....No Doubt.
I am sorry that some folks have abused this program.

sgt1372 had a good suggestion. Don't take prisoners...
