Spyderco or Benchmade

Depending on what you mean by "better" the answer is. both, neither, and all of the above. In general.

Right now I'm carrying an BM ares and a Spyderco assist. they are both better at some things.

Both companies produce high-quality knives with great fit and finish, utilizing good materialis. I find Spydercos to be more ergonomic than Benchmades and the blades on Spydie seem to have superior grinds and edge geometry.

I'd say that Taylor Cutlery or Frost Cutlery makes better knives than either Benchmade or Spyderco...:D.:D.

Actually, you CAN'T go wrong with either Benchmade or Spyderco...Both are companies who make excellent knives and who stand 100% behind their products...

I think while both companies are comparable it boils down to personal preference. I prefer spyderco myself. this is going to be a loooonnnngggg thread. later, ahgar

i own loads of spydies and only 1 benchmade but that is only because i prefer the design of spyders, benchmades are amazing also.

i can see this thread causing a lot of debate and about 1,000,000 posts,
good luck reading them all!

I like Bechmades a little better because of their designs, but quality and price is about as close as you can get. It's like Buck Vs. Gerber. Each company has it's strenths and weaknesses. With Benchmade and Spyderco, its all personal preference.

Spyderco is the easy choice for me. More innovation and better edge geometry and blades shapes/grinds. They just work better for me. Not that i have anything against Benchmade. They rule Balis and make several folders I intend to own.

I prefer Spyderco knives. I have 2 Ritter Mini-Grips; an S30V and an M2. And I also own a Rant.

Some years ago I purchased a Spyderco Military 440V, and the ergo features of the forefinger choil and thumb ramp accomodation became mandatory features for any utility folder purchase. Those features simply aren't offered by Benchmade.

My last four folder purchase have been Strider SMF, Buck/Strider Tarani, Spyderco Manix and Spyderco BG42 Military - all incorporating these ergo features.

My last Benchmade folder was an 806D2, a fine folder with rigid construction, good fit and finish and excellent lock - but I just don't carry it due to the lack of these ergo features.

axis lock vs. lockback?

end of discussion.

BM lockback vs. Spyderco lockback - would be fair to compare.

Axis vs. compression lock, too.

P. S. I own a BM 710 (M2) and a Lil' Temperance (S30V). In a way, they are complementary. Both are almost perfect.
