I have been looking for a made in America edc knife.I have been carrying the benchmade MPR the problem is its pretty heavy. I have ran across a Spyderco Manix 2 lightweight which i really like but also I saw the benchmade mini griptillian. which one???

does anyone have any other recomendations thanks:)

They are both excellent knives. Pick the one that speaks to you the most.
Spyderco Endura/Delica are also worth checking out if you want lightweight.

Those are two very different knives. I have both. The Manix is bigger in blade size and just overall size and the locking mechanism is more difficult to release than the Benchmade axis locks. It also feels a lot bigger in the pocket since it's wider when closed. If you want a more compact, lighter duty knife, the Mini Grip is great. If you are looking for a heavier duty knife and you don't mind the size in your pocket, the Manix is a great choice. They really are made for different purposes. If you want something in between, take a look at a Native, which in many ways is similar to the Manix, or a Sage 1.

They are my two favorite knife companies. As far as specific models, there are obviously many different kinds to suit many different needs. Brandwise, you can't go wrong with either.

The blue manix lightweight really is light. Some people love it because of this. I believe it has a different grind than the "regular" Manix 2, too. Some dislike it becuase they view it as cheaply made. For example, I believe it has pin construction rather than screw construction and cannot be opened. It sure is light and a pretty color though. And cheap when you can find it priced right --- maybe less than $70 on occasion. I prefer the Manix 2 --- nice looker, stronger, and I like the weight. In a month or so the black Manix 2 will have S30V, not 154. That's what I would get.

(I had a Manix 2 XL. A lot of knife for the money. But too big --- primarily too wide not too long --- I returned it. Well made, milled, surprisingly light for its size.) It's a very different knife but I have an M4 Contego on order. I'll see if I like that one --- some say the handle is uncomfortable.

Benchmade and Spyderco are my favorite companies. I carried a mini-griptilian for several years and like it but decided I wanted to move to slightly larger knives. The mini-grip is a pretty economical knife because of its handle scales. Benchmade makes other knives in that size range with higher class scales and higher prices. Also in that size range would be the Spyderco Sage.

I have both the Mini and the Manix II, but if I had to choose which to carry, the Mini takes the cake. Its lighter and big enough for most tasks that you will encounter during the day. Don't get me wrong, the Manix is an awesome knife, but the Mini is so much easier to carry while wearing jeans or shorts and wont weigh you down. There are more blade choices too with the Mini!

If you want more 'tailored' responses, you might want to add specifics as far as what you will use it for, when and where you will carry, etc.

The two knives you have mentioned are not exactly equivalent to one another.

Others you might consider: Native, Delica, Endura, Griptillian, Rift .... the list can be endless - mostly based on the above ...

Of the 2 you mentioned I like the Mini-Grip all the way. I have several Mini's in different flavors and love them for EDC, fits great in the pocket and doesn't 'print' so much. The Manix Lightweight wasn't for me, don't get me wrong as I like the regular Manix2 its just that the lightweight felt odd. It was top heavy and didn't feel as robust as the original, most likely due to it being linerless. Yes it was light and has a different steel than the regular Manix, it just struck me as cheap feeling for a lack of a better word...

Stay away from both companies - otherwise you'll loose your car and have your house repossessed.
