Considering getting a new knife soon in the way of a gift and when asked I am unsure. I have done a little research and like the Manix 2 but have came here to see if there are any other knives of better quality or comfort for an EDC under $150. Any make. It will be used often so reliability is big. Thanks!

I've heard such great things about the Spyderco Gayle Bradley that I went ahead and bought one the other night. Right around $150. Others will know more than I do about it. Once it arrives and I use it hard for a week or two I'll know more. Something to think about.

Id give the HK 14715 Axis a look. I've had mine about a week now and am still being impressed by it. Can be had for under $100. It's basically a USA made Benchmade with an HK logo and not enforced by MAP. Added an 810 style deep carry clip to mine also. Quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

The Gayle Bradley is an awesome suggestion. I've had one and handled a Manix2 -- I would take the Gayle Bradley every day of the week.

There are soooo many good EDC knives in the $100 to $150 range, it makes it hard to recommend just one. It really depends on the user. OP, can you provide any additional information?

Ok 3 great knives under $85. My normal trifecta for edc rotation, in no particular order.
Benchmade 551 griptilian
Spyderco Endura 4
Kershaw Blur with black wash blade.

I currently own the SOG TOPO Meridian and it fit's in my hand well although I prefer the feel of my dad's Kershaw Skyline. I feel like the texture has more grip while not overdoing it. Blade length preferably between 3.0" and 3.5" Lighter weight and a high value steel for my price range (<150).

Go with your first instinct, ask yourself why you chose to research the Manix 2. Like Danman said there are a bunch to choose from and most of them are gonna be good knives. Go read on the Spyderco forum and see how many are happy/ do not like the Manix 2 and go from there. I've passed up knives thinking I'd be better off, but almost always went with I instinctively should have chose from the get go.
Good luck and welcome to Blade Forums, and remember, it's about having fun!!!!

I carried the Manix 2 in my edc rotation for almost a year now and it found it's way into the rotation more times than not. Phenominal blade.

This is excellent information.

If you like the Skyline (great knife), you can get an S30V Skyline at BladeHQ. I would take a close look at that, as well as the Manix 2 variants. FRN will be lighter but G10 will feel more like the Skyline.

I've had a Manix 2 in M4 and quite a few Gayle Bradleys in M4. I much prefer the GB; great knife; capable of heavy-duty stuff.

ANYTIME I gift, it is Spyderco. My name is riding on it too.
Paramilitary 2 is ALWAYS the right gift...in any flavor you want...as cheap as $110 for S30V blade-steel.
I love to gift the Caly 3's, particularly in ZDP-189 and carbon fiber. If he wants longer than 3" blade, get the Caly 3.5 in ZDP-189.
The Sage series is wonderful, although I am not fond of Sage 4.
If he "needs" heavy-duty" EDC, choose the Gayle Bradley... 3.5" blade.
Can get the Stretch (3.5" blade) in ZDP-189 which is a great slicer...good kitchen knife for veggies also.
If it's a "purse-knife" for a lady, I reco the Gayle Bradley "Air" in M4 steel.
Watch out for his state regs regarding what max length blade he can legally carry...
Have fun. It is great fun for me. Glad I have so many relatives and friends.. :)

The Skyline is a super thin knife. Moving up to just about anything else is going to be much more bulky in the pocket and hand. As long as you know that going in.
The Endura line is thin like the skyline and surprisingly tough for an FRN knife b/c of the steel liners. Give those a look too. Lots of knife for $70.
The GB is a great knife as well. With M4 steel what you lack in corrosion, you gain in toughness. A nice forced patina can prevent rust and add character.
The Manix2 is nice but it's bulky.. not width wise, but top (spine) to bottom. It takes up some pocket space for sure.
The BM HK mentioned is a fantastic blade too in D2. I have one as well and enjoy it. Lots of knife for the price.
If you want even bigger and tougher, look at the ZT 200. I just saw lots of places put them on sale for less than $150. It's a big 7 oz knife though. Far from a Skyline.

Lots of great Spyderco choices in that price range!!!!

I agree. Spyderco is one of the best mid-value knives out there. I still enjoy one every once in a while. While on vacation I picked up an all blacked out Delica. I love it.
