Spyderco Paperwork

I recently purchased two Spyderco knives from reputable dealers (I think).

Neither of the knives came with any paperwork (education sheet).

Is this normal now for Spyderco to ship knives with nothing more than the knife and box?

Nt all of them do come with the sheet. Sprint Runs are usually the only ones that do, the occasional knife in an uncommon steel may as well.

Spyderco packaging is inconsistent between models and variants, but generally consistent within a single model and variant. What model or models are they? What are the date codes on the box labels (2 letters, below the knife name, first one will be somewhere in the A-L range, second in the A-N range)? Were the knives in plastic bags, or loose in the box?

My two most recent new purchases didn't come with the edge-u-cation, only the sheet specifically about ZDP-189. HTH.

I have both of those, although both of mine are a couple years old. Neither had any paperwork at all, both were in plastic bags inside their boxes.

In my experience Spyderco is very hit and miss when it comes to paperwork, even within the same model.

If you can verify for certain that the spyderco model in question should come with papers, then call up Spyderco CS and ask for 1 to be sent to you.

I would not have expected Edge-u-cation inserts with those knives. In general, normal production knives don't come with inserts, although there are exceptions.

Only Spyderco I've gotten out of 8 that didn't have a sheet inside.

But fortunately I buy Spyderco for a great knife, not a sheet of paper. :)

One was a Military in digi camo and the other was a Police 3

Our product inserts are an on-going project and challenge (the challenge being time). We started creating Product Information Guides (PIGs) in 2011 and our goal has been to include a PIG with every new model. We're working through the process of creating PIGs for existing models as time allows. The most recent existing model to have a completed PIG is the Assist Rescue. Sprint Runs come with a letter insert, and if there is an existing PIG then it is also included. We've created some PIGs that are not necessarily model specific, but rather specific to a steel (ZDP-189) or feature (Emerson Opener).

Neither the Military Model or the Police3 have PIGs yet.

Hope this helps clarify it all a little.

I purchased a grey paramilitary cts-20cp sprint run that didn't come with any paperwork either. It was very frustrating but ultimately not the end of the world.
