Spyderco para 2 or ZT 0393

Hi and welcome to BladeForums.

There are many threads and sub forums that you can peruse through to see years of information accumulated information, specs, and advise on these two fine blades.

They are both very good pocket knives, with some differences that may sway your opinion one way or another.

In my opinion, both knives are excellent and would serve you well as an EDC.

Do you have any specific preferences or needs? If you can share more about your intended uses I’m sure we could help dial in which would be better for you.

Again, welcome and enjoy the site!

The ZT is what I would consider "prettier." It's a good-looking blade, and very usable, but I don't like metal handles, or slick handles in general for use. The glow-in-the-dark CF is sort of gimmicky to me. The PM2 has a stronger lock, G10 handles with great texture, a slicey blade, and is half the price. I would pick the PM2 10 out of 10 times, but if you are looking for a handsome conversation piece that is well made and very functional, the ZT may be the way to go.

I really plan to use it as an edc. I want something reliable sturdy and relatively easty tosharpen because imI still pretty new to sharpening my knifes. Something that cuts clean and effectively but something I could also take camping and do light whittling.

M Moonknight314 welcome to the forums. It is a great place to get a lot of information. I will give you my thoughts but before I do I will preface it with the fact I am a dealer and a big fan of ZT.

The question you ask is tough to give a direct answer to. While the 2 knives are pretty similar in size, their intent of typical use is a little different. The ZT0393 is much more overbuilt with a lot more steel behind the edge. It will not be the best slicing knife out there, so if your intent is to slice an apple, slice up boxes or just have a wicked sharp slicing knife... the ZT0393 is not for you. While the ZT will certainly do all of these task it will not do them with the precision and capability of the PM 2. The PM 2 is thinner stock, ground thinner, and has a much finer tip. Slicing, precision cuts and your daily cutting task are going to be easier and much more slicer friendly. With the extra slice ability of the Spderco you lose the overbuilt tip and blade stock of the ZT0393. If you are rough on a knife or plan to be, especially the tip, I would go 393. If not then it really comes down to which task you are going to do the most. Both will do decent at all task you mentioned, but each excel in different areas. Hope this helps!
