I have both knives and the Spydie is in my pocket and the BM is in front of me on the desk and I carried the BM today and if carries great and it carries deep but 90% of the time the Para Mili is in my pocket and they are both D2 the Spydie is the CPM D2. Anyways I do prefer the Para Mili but I also like the Benchmade and the BM has Titanium liners and is a super nice liner lock and the thumb studs are really good they extend past the handles a nice bit and are simple and effective and the clip is also a good point it carries deep and has a smaller clip so it would not be as out there as opposed to the Para but the G10 is better on the Para and it's foliage green which is just plain cool. Also ergonomics are better on the Para but the BM does have a good feel but I like the choil better on the Para and also the jimping on the Para is better than the Stryker but the jimping on the liners of the BM are really good. I am sorry if this thread sounds dis organized but I am tired and have been meaning to compare these two knives for some time. I ask you ladies and gentlemen, sisters and brothers, husbands and wives, aunts and uncles of Bladeforums which of these two knives do you like and why.

Good night.

I would go with the Paramilitary.More ergonomic and grippier handle, better lock (compression lock on the para vs. liner lock to the stryker), a more useful blade shape IMO on the Para (flat ground drop point vs saber ground tanto), easier opening method (Spyderhole vs. Stryker's thumbdisk), and I find assisted opening to be a gimmick and prefer manual opening with a Spyderhole. I can't comment on a comparison of the steels because my comparison is based off of a S30V Paramilitary and a D2 Nitrous Stryker tanto.

I haven't used either of these knives hard or as a long term EDC and my opinions are based off of my first impressions with both of these knives.

I have been carrying my para in d2 every day for the last 8 months..ive only neede to touch up the blade on some 2000 grit wet dry paper twice in that amount of time, and i use it at least 7 times every day..not opening letters either, cutting rope, thick plastic, webbing, etc...it hasnt chippd, dented or done anything to suprise me. it is a reliable, strong folder and you wont ever regret getting one.

The more you carry the para, the more you wont carry anything else.

Longest. Sentence. Ever.

I don't have either but the paramilitary seems more popular around here.

Only touched up twice in 8 months? I dont think you have d2 it must be a claw off Wolverine!

Seriously though, I love my d2 para as well. Great edc and is a very functional blade. I touch mine up weekly with stropping and keep a nice razor edge on her. Great weight, feel, and cutting ability. All you could ever want in a edc really

i had the same problem. i first bought the 913. it devloped a lot of blade play. and with the D2 steel not being stainless wasn't good, for me. i had also heard of a lot of manufacturing issues due to it being rushed into production. after a lot of research on a knife to replace it i decided to get a paramilitary. although my PM is in S30V with the digicam G10. i could not be happier with the paramilitary. it is a much better knife in my opinion. and with an STR lowrider clip in just disappears in the pocket.

I gotta put my vote in for the Para D2 also. I don't know if Spyderco does CPMD2 different than others, but this thing holds an edge forever! After a few months it has needed one sharpening to bring it back to a fine flat ground razor. Some gripe about the handle/blade ratio but it's perfect for me, plenty of blade with a sturdy, grippy handle. Best $100 I have ever spent on a knife.

Yeah i guess that does sound like i have some sort of alien super steel instead of D2, none the less i tell no lies:D

I would gladly trade my spearpoint PE Stryker for a Para-Military, but the Para does cost around 30-40 dollars more. One of my earliest purchases, before I knew much about knives, included the aforementioned Stryker and a Kershaw SG-2 Blur.

I love the Blur and have no regrets about the Stryker as I carry it often. However, I don't know if I would still purchase the Stryker today. It's a very nice knife, but now that I know more about what I prefer in a knife, there are several knives that I might choose before it.

Personally I think the Stryker and Blur are more similar in price and function. But I always have a difficult time trying to rate one knife as better than another. Put another way, I try to evaluate whether the quality of the knife I received is commiserate with the price I paid. So far, I've been happy with everything I've bought from Kershaw, Spyderco, Benchmade, and RAT. Before these I somehow got by with a Buck 110 and 501, case stockman, and an Opinel. :)

Yeah I bought the Nitrous Stryker because I bought it for about $50 from Benchmade through a place that I used to work before it closed down so I bought it because it was a good deal and heck it is a pretty darn good knife and I did manage to get the D2 Para the same way.

I replaced my edc BM grip with the Para in D2. My Benchmade is resting for now. D2 is so far my favorite knife blade steel.

I bought a para when they first came out. A couple years ago or so. A very well thought out knife that really should be the standard to which other knives should strive for in it's price range. It has great qualities that are put together well. A rare one in the knife world. VERY well engineered piece of equipment.

My Spyderco Military in CPM D2 tested at 62 RC, fully explaining why it has such great edge retention and takes such clean edges. It is also far from chippy for me. I think Spyderco really nailed the heat treat with their CPM D2, it has just been a wonderful performer for me. I can't really comment on Benchmade's D2 as I haven't had a chance to use it.
