spyderco para military

Perfect for edc. The S30V is stainless, so you're gonna get plenty corrosion resistance. I think it is strong, I guess you could say rugged...zero blade play and solidly constructed. It is often considered a "hard use" knife, but to paraphrase another poster I saw recently, I don't understand why they put such a fine tip/point on a "hard use" knife. I would consider it to be a strong and rugged slicer, but I'm not sure I'd be comfortable really whacking on the blade like a fixed blade knife.

The compression lock is a bit awkward but usable. I'd prefer a liner lock like the full size Military. The blade edge is a bit more curved than I'd like, but I haven't really had a problem in use. The clip makes the knife ride a bit higher in the pocket than I'd like as well, but I got used to that quickly. It doesn't flop around in-pocket like I thought it would since the clip is so secure.

If it literally is the "perfect" size, and you've already considered what I've discussed here (lock, blade shape, clip, etc.), you can't go wrong. If you haven't thought about these things, specifically the lock, you may want to check out the bigger Military for just about the same price. I find the size of the Military carries fine, but I'm about 6'2" and 250#, so YMMV.

im 5'6'' and 140 lbs and although i think i would like the military better it is too large, the clip doesnt concern me because i jujst put the knife in my pocket and never use the clip, the lock i figure is no big because what really matters is getting the blade open and im unlikely to be in a situation where it is critical that i get my knife closed. as long as the lock is strong im good with it. the blade shape is no big deal to me, i rarely ever use the knife for anything more than small random tasks and if im hunting or camping i carry a fixed knife for the real work so yeah thanks for the info i think im good with this knife. cant wait to recieve it im thinking i will become a spyderco fan for sure

I highly recommend the para military. When I got my first one in the mail, I was so impressed. I was hooked and I EDC'd it 24/7. I have already bought me another one! Good choice and show us some pics when you get yours!!

I work in a salty environment and use my knives hard, and the Paramilitary fits the bill perfectly. I can and do get by with just my Para more often than any other pocket knife.

The Para is a great knife. There is no such thing as a perfect knife, but the para come close. The ergonomics are incredible, you will be hard pressed to find a better/more useful blade shape, the full flat grinding allows it to slice very well, the compression lock is a thing of beauty its an incredibly strong and reliable lock and its just the right size not to small and not to large.

The knives down sides are IMO its looks, at least its looks in photo’s once I got one in hand and started using it I got to like how the knives looked. Its not a pry bar but then no folding knife should be used like one. It carries a bit high in the pocket and some people don’t like its handle to blade ratio.

Over all I think the para is one if the best EDC choices on the market.

yeah i found the knife a bit cheaper but once its shipped to canada and goes through customs and i get nailed for taxes it going to cost a bunch more. the one i posted is still the best price for me being that its in canada and theres no customs to go through

Rugged, strong, rust resistant. Order it now so you have it sooner. This is one of the "can't go wrong" knives out there.

im about to pull the trigger on a para military for my new long time edc knife. what are your opinions on it for that purpose? how corrosive resistant is the s30 v steel and do you think it is rugged and strong? i know the size is perfect for me so thats not an issue. thanks

this is the exact one im gon git i think
Well, I'll say that the Para has the potential to be the perfect EDC for you.

After all, it has great blade-steel.
It's made by one of the greatest knife companies ever.
It is made of quality parts and it is put together with great precision.
It is neither too light nor too heavy.
It's just about the perfect size for an EDC.
And the lock is rock solid.

So why did I trade my Para-Military?

It just didn't feel good in my hands at all.
While the Military felt perfect in my grip, the Para felt terrible.
The curves of the handle are in all the wrong places for me.

I recommend that you actually handle one before you buy, if possible.

Good luck,
Allen

The Para is one of the best EDC designs out there. For me, the handle ergonomics are outstanding, construction is high quality, and I really like the compression lock. I carry it much more often than my Millie.
