Hey guys,

New to the forum, i was doing some research into a knife for an upcoming climbing trip and ending up getting enthralled with all the different options out there. Ended up ordering an all black paramilitary 2. Anyway i'm a mechanical engineer and have an entire machine shop/production floor to my disposal. I had seen this http://www.cuscadi.de/wp-content/uploads/produktbilder/152/tenac_re.jpg which looks awesome!! I found the canvas micarta here http://www.texasknife.com/vcom/product_info.php?cPath=587_826_841_613&products_id=4021 for 10 dollars so i figure i can just machine out a pair myself and should be pretty close. My next task is to either find the 3d information online or 3d scan the scales myself and reverse engineer them. Sooo my question is does anyone have any data for the shape of the scales(Hole locations, outside spline shape)? 3D scanning will be a last resort as it becomes time consuming to make sense of all the data but it does get the job done.

Thanks!

David.

Hello,

New to the forum here. I just recently ordered an all black PM2 for a climbing trip and I was wondering if anyone here had any data on the scales for a PM2 knife. I'm an engineer and have various cnc tools at my disposal and wanted to recreate the scales in Canvas Micarta to give it a slightly different look. I do have a 3D scanner but it becomes a bit of a project doing an entire 3d shape. Does anyone happen to have this information? Mainly hole centers, and the profile perimeter?

Thanks!

David.

I have never seen that information publicly. I really doubt even if someone reverse engineered it they would post it here on Spyderco's forum. I know some companies mass produce some aftermarket scales out of Ti and Al, and I am sure they have STEP files, but would be very unlikely to let that out. You as an Engineer know how that works. If I was doing a project like you, I would keep my information secret out of respect for Spyderco. It is pretty easy for an average person to do a little research, d/l some free CAD software and be on their way off the backs of others who have put in hard work. Spyderco is being attacked right now by Chinese fakes that are getting scary good, and it is a hot subject here on the forums. I know you are new here, and seem to not mean any harm, but this might turn into a fire storm. Just a warning, maybe not.

That information it would seem is something that is closely guarded and protected. I wouldn't think Spyderco would give you the files just because.

Nccole,

Thanks for your reply i understand where your coming from and hope it doesn't become a storm. I was hoping there was someone who had already attempted to make themselves some custom handles and perhaps this data was common knowledge since I've seen many people with non standard handles on these things. Not planning mass production here just something to individualize my new purchase!
