The WE is an awesome device. I have no issues at all with s90, 110-125, 10v, or any of the 'monster' steels. It's such a solid device that nothing is really out of bounds.

Having said that, my first Maxamelt I'd coming this week, and I hear that's on a whole different level. Still though, not worried!

Wicked Edge = awesomesauce

It wasn't the steel that was the problem. Most Spyderco FFG don't play well with the WE at the heel of the blade[emoji6]

Ahh gotcha. I know what you mean. How did you fix that?

Removed the plastic edge on one side of every stone, blank and strop. I'll post pics later.

Ok, it's later:
Razor knife the plastic edge off next to the stone, aluminum or glass blank, or leather strop.

Then clean up the edge on a belt sander

I need to work up to your skills

But like you I love my wicked edge it's just too easy to make something scary sharp

If you remove the edges of your paddles I recommend ordering the Wicked Edge cut resistant gloves or equivalent. Ask me how I know, lol.

How bad

I cut a tiny little cut from my PM2 just by touching the blade after the strops

There is a huge difference in sharpness when you get to polished edges

Not because of extra sharpness in the blade, because of cutting off the plastic edge that protects your finger. My brain said "that will never happen but the Wicked Edge over ruled! Cut the tip of my right ring finger off, not so bad that it won't grow back but enough bleed all over the place. Didn't even feel it till I saw blood, lol.

That's why i only removed about an inch and a half of the plastic on each paddle...just enough to reach the heel but keeps fingers safe lol

Yea, tried that but then you have to short stroke the heal and blend it, it didn't work for me. Bought the gloves because this is t the first time I have nicked myself even before I removed the edges, lol. Hopefully when it's time for new stones WE will have used thicker stones to eliminate the problem. Lots of Spyderco guys out there that don't buy a wicked edge just because of this reason and thicker stones would solve it. I even toyed with the idea of removing the stones and putting thick double sided tape between the paddle and the stone, it would mess up the degree markings but they are only accurate at one point in space and always seems to be off at least a degree with the knifes I have sharpened. The degree markers get you in the ballpark but an angle cube is a must in my opinion.

How do you like to clamp the ffg blade?

I have the gen 3 clamp, the first para 2 I did I foam taped the front tabs of the clamp. I'm doing my M4 blade right now and I only put blue tape on both tabs and it's holding fine.

Lol, if you look close in the second pic you can see my glasses in the reflection on the edge. I haven't even done the 1.0/0.5 micron strops yet and probably don't need them but I'll do them anyway.

That m4 should come out crazy sharp...i did one stopped at 600 grit and stropped at 5 micron and was hair whittling already.
