just picked one up and have a few critical comments:

things i like:
1. handle contour and feel(fits good in my hand)
2. scary sharp blade
3. pocket clip

things i dont like:
1. hate the locking mechanism(used to frame locks)
2. very rough opening and closing blade(BM much better)
3. blade play(slight wobble)
4. blade length in proportion to handle(3 in blade on almost 5 in handle)
5. thumb ramp on blade too steep

so i ordered this knife for my father inlaw cause he loves spyderco as a gift. of course I am going to check it out before I give it too him :)
my impressions after waiting over a month to get it are not favorable for my personal tastes, definately like BM's more at this pricepoint(100 bucks)

but doesnt even come close to my sebbies

anyone have better experiances or opinions about this knife, pretty disappointed with the 1 I received:grumpy:

It is one of my fav's. A little militec-1 and some cycles had it popping in no time. Not as smooth as a Benchmade but does it need to be? great full flat grind and as far as blade:handle goes, I get a great feeling knife that I can legally carry.

I sure am excited to get one! I have been awaiting this model for a long, long time. :)

Hi Guys
My plainedge just arrived today, scary sharp, no blade play and quite smooth. The whole package is more sheeple friendly than it's full size brother the Military. Great grip and usful blade.
Phil :)

While I don't generally like my knives to have a large handle to blade ratio, I really like my Para Military. No problems with gritty opening/closing and no blade play. For my hand, the thumb ramp is about a close to perfect as one could hope for in a production knife.

Frame locks are great (my rotation includes a TNT, a Lochsa, and a Madd Maxx 3"), but as far as I'm concerned, the compression lock rocks!

I thought the handle was a little big for a 3" blade knife. However, the more I use it, the better I like the feel of the bigger grip. It makes the knife handle really well.

Otherwise, mine has been sharp, smooth and no blade play. The jury is still out on the locking system. If it is stronger than a typical liner lock I guess it's worth getting use to. If not, than I can do without it.

I understand that some people don't like big handle to blade ration for asthetic reasons, but big handle to blade ratio makes for great ease of use and comfort on a real world working knife. I have had my Paramilitary for close to three weeks and I'm very happy with it. It's sharp as all get out and mine is very smooth with no blade play. I think I benefitted from not getting a first production run Paramilitary; it seems the bugs have been worked out of the current batch. I think it is a great buy for the money. It is definitely better than any high end or custom liner lock of similar size.

That's been my experience as well, after using my Para for the first couple of weeks. It handles really well with its larger handle.

I think Sal and Spyderco are on the right track with the blade and handle size.

But I HATE the Compression-lock.
My Vesuvius is the only Spyderco I own that I don't really like and it's because of the Compression-lock.
I honestly don't see how it is any better than a trusty lock-back design.
I give Spyderco great respect for being brave enough to try new ideas and technology, but the Compression-lock just is'nt that great in my book.

I even noticed that Spyderco finally changed the Vesuvius from a Compression-lock to a lock-back.
A smart move IMHO.

A Para-Military lock-back would be nearly perfect.

Allen.
