Okay, so looking at the Spyderco Paramilitary 2. It seems to have a huge following. I have lots of blades, folders, fixed, and right now my favorite is the Spyderco Tenacious. I figured I'd get that for my first spyderco and see if I liked it before spending real $ on something fancy. Well I love it, but could use stronger.

Any other folder I should look at before committing to the Paramillitary 2??

Stronger for what, exactly? Say a little more about your intended uses and the community will be better able to advise you in more detail.

If you're a fan of the Spyderhole and want something tough, you might try the Manix 2 in one of its many incarnations.

anything MADE BY eMERSON, but relay you cannot go wrong with a para 2 but think out side the box CqC -7 is a must have and a great folder classic just as much as a PM2.

Well, my other EDC before this was the Tops/Buck CSAR t. Its TOO beefy, but it makes this tendentious feel very fragile, like working with an xacto blade. I could just be ruined from the big a** CSAR.

I guess I am looking for other knives comparable to the paramillitary 2 to consider before just spending 10 paychecks on it before looking at other similar knives.

Thanks you guys!!!

One thing I do like about the paramillitary 2 and the tenacious I have is the hex screws on the scales. Pins seem cheap to me.

I read like you. Got one and i use it. Really like it. Dont feel a need for somethingelse. Post what you have!

10 Paychecks??? Where do you work, I think you should demand a raise.

Anyways, I love my Paramilitary 2. I have the Brown model with the S35VN blade steel. Everyone talks about it like it's a great knife, that it's awesome, and that everyone should own one; and everyone is right. It is one of my favorite knives without a doubt, it would get more pocket time with me, but I feel that I'm cheating my other knives out of pocket time. It has great ergonomics, some of the best I've ever felt. I'm currently contemplating getting another Paramilitary 2 or a Military, I have never held a Military so I'm hesitating on what I'm gonna get. It's a pretty big knife for something with a 3" blade. The compression lock is great and really fun to play with. I've reduced my EDC down to 6 or 7 knives out of the original 40-something I started with; I am now left with these as my favorites:

- Spyderco Paramilitary 2 Brown S35VN (favorite)

- Benchmade 710D2 (my other favorite)

- Some other knife I can't think of

- Benchmade 275BK (today's EDC)

- Zero Tolerance 0301

- Benchmade 551

- Cold Steel Recon 1

If I had to get rid of all of my knives except for one, it would be a very tough decision between the PM2 and the 710. If you get the Paramilitary 2, you will not regret it. I have never heard anything negative about it and I think there is no reason to have any complaints about it. It is perfectly sized and sexy as fuck. Get it.

TL;DR: Get it

Here's a size comparison:

The Paramilitary 2 uses Torx (6 pointed star) fasteners for assembly. I've read that the Tenacious uses hex but I don't own one to verify that. The Torx are better, less prone to strip under torque.

Most of Spyderco's knives are thinner than a lot of competing brands' similar knives. This is done on purpose to make them better at cutting stuff. Thick blades trade away cutting power for greater ability to pry things. Each user has to find the right balance between thickness and cutting ability for the way they intend to use the tool.

I EDC a Para 2 for work (construction) and even though the blade stock is robust at 3.5 mm, it is not designed for prying. The full flat grind and distal taper make it a powerful cutter. The blade is stable under lateral loads that would phase a FFG Endura, and this allows me control that a thinner knife would not offer. But I am careful with it and it rewards me with excellent performance. It would not be a good choice for prying. For that a Zero Tolerance would be better, IMO.

Awesome, getting great feedback! The Tenacious also has torx construction. Can never say much for china though, but was very very surprised at how well it was built.

Here's my only spyderco:

Sure do love the looks of the gribtillian. I have never used one though. Haven't heard super good things about customer service either. ??!?!?!

The Chinese can build things very well if proper controls are in place. Many high end consumer electronics come from China nowadays. The iPhone, for example.

didn't take me much, as soon as I get the $, its PM2 time. Or Spyderco Bushcraft. thats a whole other topic.

If you need something that can stand up to harder use, not abuse mind you, I would consider looking at a ZT 0350. It's got the same S30V blade steel and is in the same price range.

The Para 2 is an excellent knife.
I got rid of mine back in the day and wanted another ever since.
So I got another and love it just as much.
It's going for something I've wanted for longer though...

But I'm getting another asap.
