Spyderco Perrin PPT Scales

I am thinking about buying a sprint run Spyderco Perrin PPT with carbon fiber scales, but I have a question about the scales and their relationship to how well the knife's locking mechanism functions.

I understand that the locking mechanism on this knife is something of a hybrid with characteristics of both a Reeve Integral Lock and a liner lock. And that the scales on the side of the knife with the locking mechanism have been lowered, apparently to allow the person holding the knife to further tighten the locking mechanism with their grip.

But I have also seen custom scales for this knife that do not have one of the scales lowered. I think this makes the knife look more "balanced", but I am wondering if the custom scales would make the knife less safe to use.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Thanks

I doubt it would make the knife less safe. The lock is essentially a framelock with a scale over it and a cutout. I don't know about that bit about strengthening the lock, I don't recall reading about it when I was researching this knife.

I reached out to one of the designers of the PPT and he indicated that the lock bar is above the scales so that, when the knife is gripped, it tightens the lock all that much more.

And to prevent over extending the lock bar when you unlock the knife, the PPT has the side of the scale just enough up to halt the lock bar from going out any further than it needs to.

He didn't comment on whether or not a scale that is not lowered would make the knife less safe.

If you look around online you can see a few versions with all metal slabs. The have a custom stop pin integrated in the lock and there was even a corrugated Ti version.
