Just got my Spyderco Persian (Ed Schempp design). This knife was a replacement for an older designer Spyderco that has some issues. Thanks to Michael in warranty for suggesting this model.

Spyderco has done well with the Persian, the knife has great ergonomics, a razor sharp VG-10 blade, nice micarta handles w/SS bolsters, great quality control with very close tolerances in the fit and finish. The Persian is definately high up in my EDC rotation.

Great job Sal & team!

Thanks,
ScottK

Just received mine today too Scott, agree with you completely. The one thing that baffles me with this knife is the price. When you compare it to the jigged bone Kiwi, which carries the same MSRP, the Persian really looks like the steal of the century. Now the Kiwi is a fine little knife, it's my personal favorite for EDC to work, and I love mine dearly, but you could probably make blades for half a dozen of them with the steel needed for one Persian. Same goes for liner and bolster materials, and jigged bone can't be all that much more expensive that micarta, can it? Quality looks very similar to me.

I have to agree that the Persian is a real financial deal. My local dealer is clearing out some old models, and the Viele is still a buck higher than the new Persian. I'm really impressed because this knife has real bolsters also. Although my gut feeling is that the Persian is too specialized to be a really big seller, I hope that becomes a godd enough earner that Sal considers producing a 3"bladed version. That would be a really nice EDC.

I hope it sells well too Anthony, am thinking this may just be "the" design to bring those folks who prefer the more "traditional" look of a bolstered knife into the ranks of Spyderco owners. That being said, a 3" version, especially one with bone or wood scales would look great! Not sure if it would work as well for most people as the current one though, as you really do need to get all four fingers down in the "hollow" of this one. Know I'd buy one for sure, but I have small hands. Then again, I'd buy another full size one with those scales too. :D

While I am usually one of the last to get a jump on new spyderco products - why don't you provide a picture and story about this one. I cannot find any info on it. :(
