Now i've heard about the problem with the lock being too loose when closed on the spyderco tenacious, but does the persistance have these problems aswell?

Not at all, the Persistence has a ball detent that makes it much more secure.

As an aside, I believe all current Tenacious have the ball detent now too. The one I bought in September 2009 has it, so they have been manufacturing an updated model for a while now. My Tenacious is very secure as far as blade retention goes.

ok cool.after seeing that nutnfancy vid i was a little worried that it would open slightly in my pocket or sumthing and i'd end up like that guy.

Yeah, that video has a lot of people on edge about that knife. It seems every time I see someone considering it, they all refer back to it as the #1 reason they have not/will not pull the trigger and buy it. I wonder how much money that has cost Spyderco in the long run lol.

this would be like a small EDC blade.I' trying to decide between the persistance and the foliage green Frn handled ladybug3

I wish I could send my Persistence & Tenacious in for updating to the ball detent.

OTH, They work just fine. NutnFancy is always cut up in his vids (as I am sometimes). That dude carries on like he just drank a couple of 5 shot espressos. You have to be careful when playing with knives! ;)

im more worried about it shaking open,im really careful about keeping knives in packs and stuff

I have several of both Tenacious and Persistence and I don't think you have anything to worry about. The detent on these knives are quite secure. If you carry them tip up with the blade resting against the back of the pocket, there's no chance it would open by it self.

Comparing the two knives side by side, the Persistence has a little advantage over the larger brother in blade retention purely due to the weight difference of the blade. There's less mass and leverage to overcome the detent.

Forgot to add -

Carry them tip down if you're that worried. I've never heard anyone complain about their Spyderco working open and cutting them up but NutnFancy (I like some of his vids but he isn't the 2nd coming, ya know?).

I have both on my table between my hands and set for tip up. Both are nice and stiff IMO and no more going to pop open than the poster who was worried about his BM940 coming open in a normal pocket carry situation.

You can crank the pivot down too if that makes you feel better. :)

im more worried about it shaking open

Are you a jack-hammer operator? That would be a whole lot of shaking!

My Persistance has the ball detent and I have had no problems with it at all. One of my most carried knives right now
