I Was wondering if anyone knew anybody that would copy a blade design and put it in the original knife? I have the spydeco persistence and love the design so much i would like to upgrade the steel of the blade. My question is will anyone do it or can it even be done?

Anything can be done, its just a matter of how much money are you willing to spend on it. I would suggest you check out the Makers forum. Good luck.

That is a terrible idea! It would be much more expensive than simply buying another Spydie with a better blade steel.

Did you even read the post?

He doesn't just want another knife with better steel, he wants a persistence with better steel.

I read the post and what AF wrote is correct. You can't really get a piece of CPM-S90V custom fit into that handle, ground, sharpened & heat treated for the low, low rock bottom price of $1.99. The answer to the question is yes, it can be done. Is it financially prudent? Not really.

You wanted a custom blade to fit in the cheapest Spyderco? It's like to take a Ferrari's engine and put it into a Corolla. Why not just buying a Cayman instead, would be cheaper and performs better.

He wasn't asking about cost.

He asked about the possibility, and the answer is yes, I am sure there is someone who can make a blade for the knife.

I don't know anyone specifically, but it's not impossible.

It sure is troll in here. :thumbdn:

WTF are you even talking about?

To OP: That kind of thing is not unheard of. Hopefully someone who has done something like this will contribute, or you can try the makers forum. Sounds like a really neat knife if it does get made. ;)

timeperfection spot on:thumbup: I love my Persistence. I'll leave to everybody's imagination what I would do for Sal personally to have a production or sprint run in a much better steel. Best guess you'd have a $200 blade on a $30 knife. I'd rather pester Sal till he does a sprint run in say D2 for around $125(actual) ~$175MSRP

Yea i would like d2 as well. I use to love benchmades in d2 but after buying the same model 3 times and haveing the samething happen 3 times, I went to spyderco and love them no issues. I bought the stryker 907 in d2 and the darn blade wood hit a backspacer and chip the blade. I got the knife from three diffrent vendors. You figure benchmade would fix the issues.

I have a 908 & a 913 Stryker and I haven't had that issue with either of them they both ride about 1/16" off the spacers. Maybe you got unlucky 3 times:eek: If my Persistence had a blade in D2 or even 14c26n it would get most of my pocket time. My 913 gets it the most because I could probably remove a car door with it if I had too.

I don't know anyone who will do that. Copying blade shapes is not well thought of among talented makers, and you would require one with quite a bit of talent to do what you want done.

If you did find one who would do what you want done, it would be very expensive.

timeperfection, I'd love to have a few spyderco's in better blade steel but the Persistence is the only one I've played with that feels "right" in my hands so far. The Military in D2 has almost a legendary performance record but it don't fit my hand. Now re-tool the Persistence in M4 with some G10 or CF scales ,just to come up to par with the blade steel and I'm all over it at $250. Problem is is that we are in the minority and it doesn't make sense for Sal to build it:(

Talk to Chase Axinn at Chaxknives.net. He's made replacement blades for a lot of folders according to his web site and the scale work he's done for me is top notch.
