Spyderco Persistence quality control?

Hi,

I have been waiting for a while to purchase a Spyderco Persistence. However, there are concerns on threads from 1 year to 1.5 years ago about quality control issues like fit and finish. At this point I was wondering if this knife still has these issues or are they already fixed. Anybody purchase a persistence recently? If it helps I am purchasing from Amazon. Thanks.

I own a Tenacious which is a very similar knife, and it arrived (Dec '10) with perfect fit & finish, especially for a $30 knife.

I would suggest you spend the extra $3 you would save on Amazon and go through a real knife store. You might save a couple bucks, only to end up having to return it and wait for another one.

My Tenacious came from Amazon and was perfect... As well as my Kershaw Skyline and Boa.

I have never heard of or seen any proven QC issue regarding the Chinese Spyderco knives. I'm sure there have been isolated issues here and there but nothing about the entire line of four knives in general.

I would be very confident about buying any of these knives.

I bought a Persistence a few months ago; it was made in March of 2010, if that matters at all. The only nitpick I have with the overall fit and finish is the imperfect grind. There's a few 'waves' that show up along the ffg blade that really stand out against the satin finish. You have to be careful with the screws also (they seem slightly off-size and are prone to stripping.)

Other than those very minor complaints, the Persistence is a good buy and, in my opinion, the best offering in the Tenacious 'family.' Hope this helps!

My persistence is perfect. Great F&F imo, blade is perfectly centered and there is no blade play at all. I bought mine at a retail store.

Thanks guys. No retail store around me carries the persistence. Not even Plaza Cutlery so I purchased off Amazon. Once again much thanks to your replies and imput.

But why amazon? Why not SMKW, knifecenter, knifeworks, New Graham, or any of the dealers that support the forum you are using that list in the dealers section? Why through your money to the big guy to save under five bucks, when you could order from one of these dealers? I mean if you're worried about quality, knifeworks and New Graham will check a knife before they ship it out to you. That way you can avoid getting knives with bent tips and having the same knife returned to you because the guy doing the exchange at amazon doesn't know what flaw he is looking to fix, as recently was posted here.

There seems to be a recent trend towards amazon with some posters and I can't say I get it, but I also wouldn't buy truck tires from Costco, or a nice watch from Walmart and think the item won't be flawed, where as from a tire shop or jewelry store I would.

I bought a Persistence and Resilience from KW last November. No problems with either knife.

You don't understand why people would purchase from Amazon? I don't understand why you wouldn't.

Amazon provides a very nicely integrated shopping experience, where you can buy either directly from Amazon or from one of the merchants which use Amazon to sell their products. It's not like a big box mart, since smaller online companies can sell through Amazon, and its these places which often have good deals. Shipping is often free, and when combined with its excellent customer service, I simply do not see why you wouldn't use it. I've never gotten anything defective from Amazon, and I've used it extensively for all sorts of products. But even if you do, the return process is amazingly simple.

Where is the logic here? Why would a Tenacious from Amazon be different from a Tenacious from knife center? Do you think Spyderco manufactures their knives based on what dealer is selling them? If Costco sold Rolex watches, why are they any different from the Rolex watches you'd find in a jewelery store? As long as the item hasn't been tampered with, I don't see how it would be different at all...

I've handled one, and I was very impressed with the F&F for the price, but as I said, that's just one. Spyderco has always been a company where I was never worried about F&F.

--I know this thread is a few days old, but Spyderco's Tenacious, Persistance and Resiliance knives have exception fit, finish, and function .. even without considering the 30-40 dollar price points.
--and without mis-directing the thread...there is a difference in where you purchase your knife (IMHO). Some dealers have been in business for over 75 years...some dealers have invested in a real brick and mortar store that is open daily....some dealers support this forum (and other forums) with financial contributions that give the knife nuts somewhere to read this....some dealers support major events such as Blade Show with very substantial financial support...some dealers support Knife Rights and ATKI two outfits that fight for your knife rights....some dealers support (through expensive advertising) magazines such as Blade Magazine, Knives Illustrated, Tactical Knives and others helping to keep these publications available to the end line user. Some dealers have been on the same corner for decades, so if you have a problem with them, you can drive to the store and 'punch em in da face). Does this mean one of those dealers has a better example of a particular knife...not necessarily, but there has to be some comfort in knowing with whom you trade and some understanding of the difference between a Mom and Pop outfit working out of their truck or kitchen and a bonified knife store. Just my 0.02 .... i could be wrong ...

I have a Tenacious. Can't tell any difference between its fit and finish and other more expensive folders (Delica, MiniGrip, various SOG's...). It's a bargain!
