Spyderco PM2 in waiting

Hi all! I'm definitely new to the forum and I know everyone and their grandma is looking to get a PM2. I'm sure it's been rehashed many times and I don't mean to beat a dead horse but I preordered a digi camo satin blade model from KC on 2-12. I know the wait is going to be substantial, but I was wondering has anyone else ordered a PM2 from them prior to this month and received it yet? Any idea on what the average turnaround has been lately for them? I'm In no rush, but I'm like a kid before Christmas and can't wait to get it and I know it'll be well worth the wait! Any info is appreciated, thanks!

when i spoke with spydie in october they said they were releasing a few at a time to random dealers and thats all they were willing to tell... its gonna be a while. to me it sounds like they are doing this on purpose to make hype and get the pre orders in. the knife is fantastic though and well worth it, im glad i was able to snag one before the huge rush to get one came around, ordered mine off line and had it in a week

According to my query with Mr. Sal a while back, they are expanding the facility and in the process are cranking out as much production as they can. As a veteran of the order and wait game, my counsel is to do your best to forget about the order. Then, when you see that your credit card has been zapped, or you get an email that the knife is ready, its a nice surprise. I'm currently in the midst of a Para 2 dealer exclusive pre-order that I've been waiting on for probably a year. Fortunately, I have 5 other Para 2's to keep me warm at night. Some people are waiting on kidneys and livers, so waiting on a Para 2 is not so bad really.

I am too impatient for this sort of thing. I hate waiting, I hate line ups. If it's not available then I don't want it. I have spent around 3000.00 in the last few months, on perfectly good available knives. Will probably spend as much in the months to come.
Was going to pull the trigger on a custom Microtech, but someone beat me to it so that's ok, If there were two, then they would have got another sale. Not my loss. I believe that customer demand should drive the industry, not the other way around.
Cheers

 The Golden facility is running at full capacity and has been so for quite some time now. They are swamped with not only regular production models that are high in demand like the plain jane PM2's, but also limited runs and other projects. The PM2 is not the only model that's backed up (ex. Native5 in full Ti was supposed to be out last year!), I highly doubt they are stalling to "create hype" lol trust me, they want to sell you knives. As for PM2's, they trickle down to the dealers in small batches and that will be so until they catch up to demand. As Powernoodle said, they are trying to address this by expanding the facility which in itself will also take time and effort. I believe that in this case customer demand is driving the industry not the other way around, I'm not sure how people come to the opposite conclusion without having much to go by other than a knife is backordered. You don't see standard PM2's going for twice the price as its msrp... Highly doubt it is by design.

Indeed. And if Spyderco are ramping up the production then great. They are indeed responding to customer demand.
My point is that I myself am impatient, The fact that some companies do practice such marketing techniques, does not affect me in the slightest. Or even for that matter, whether a company can keep up.
I suppose a different reply to the OP (and my apologies if sounding like boring old geezer.lol) Life is short, enjoy it, don't spend it waiting.
Cheers

Yeah, I'm impatient by nature also so I understand it totally. Advice to the OP is do not spend it impatiently waiting, enjoy plenty of other blades! It will come weather you pre-order or just wait for standard production to catch up.

I don't know what the deal is but I do find it odd that just knives in general are so hard to get. I mean I can't think of much else that if you have the money you can't go out and buy other than certain toys for kids at Christmas. Maybe that's the problem knives are mans equivalent of the tickle me Elmo.

FCM415 I agree.
If my walk in guy, or the usual online dealers get a bunch in then great. I will buy a few. Until then, it's out of my head and on to the next thing that catches my eye.
It just sometimes puts me in mind of those I phone line up situations that's all.lol
Cheers

I'm on a list waiting as we speak. I've never done this before, so that should tell you something. :)

I am currently waiting for the para-military 2 S35VN blade with the brown handles from Bladehq its probably gonna take months

I'm curious why the PM2 is so much more popular than before. It's a great knife, but it has been around for awhile. And while always a good seller, it seems like the demand for them has gone way up. Maybe Spyderco as a whole has become better known and is selling a lot more knives. Glad to see it. The more knife owners (lovers) - the better!

I think the popularity has sky rocketed recently due to YouTube reviews and videos on related sites. Seems like the more positive review videos, the more popular it gets. I was on the fence for a while about buying one, I already own an endura, persistence and tenacious and currently edc the tenacious. I wanted the pm2 mainly for blade shape and steel. The vg10 on the endura is very durable but the blade shape isn't very conducive to the type of work I do. The 8cr13mov on the tenacious though, needs to be sharpened quite frequently due to its softness. So I thought the pm2 would be a good choice, not to mention its just a beautiful piece. So with that being said I have several very functional knives that serve the purpose in the meantime while I wait

ok i wasn't gonna ask because it will show my ignorance and how new i am to collecting, but...i don't understand...aren't there tons of them on certain auction sites (not sure of all the rules here, i don't know if i can name sites).? are there certain models that everyone wants that aren't on there or something? i read a post about everyone wanting the brown PM2 and i immediately found some on the auction site for a what i thought was a pretty fair buy it now price. maybe they are really only worth half of the price they are going for on that site and that's why no one just buys from there? would someone mind filling me in on what i'm missing? sorry i know it has to be a dumb questioin when i'm the new guy and all the vets here are saying they aren't available and i think they are haha.
