I have a number of the black PM2 S30V steel. I also have a Brown PM2 S35V. I just had a black PM2 done by Geoff tuffthumbz in the orange anzo, cant wait to get it next week. My question is, is it okay to carry and use the brown PM2 with the S35V steel or is it going to be a collector. My feeling is, it is no big deal and I should just use it. From what I read there is no real difference between the S30V and S35V steel. I have 2 of the blue PM2 on pre-order, they should be nice.

There is a difference between S30V and S35VN, how much difference and how much it matters seems to be a matter of opinion. And then some people like the brown G10 better than black. Use it if you want to, keep it a safe queen if you don't, but I think it is unlikely it will become realvaluable as a collector. For that matter a lot of people use their PM2's that were much more expensive, such as the orange and blue ones. If you are going to have a lot of different ones, then you might not want to use all of them. You could keep a few for users, a few for spares, and sell the rest.

Use it! my brown para 2 has been my work beater for several months. I love it! I was initially a little disappointed with the edge retention, seeing as how I rolled the edge the first day I used it at work from routine light cutting tasks. But it really grew on me. All it takes is a few strokes on a strop and it is back to shaving sharp. And of course I have a thing for brown! I recently picked up a Strider SnG in brown as well. All I need now is a xm 18 3.5" non flipper slicer grind with brown scales and I will be set ;)

If I find I am not using my knives, I tend to get rid of them. I am still young and spry so I can afford to use my knives the way they deserve to be used. As I get older and my joints start locking up tighter than my RILs, maybe I'll consider buying knives for aesthetics and not use but for now, I will use em! Just my opinion on the matter but I figured I'd voice it.

I like the brown, but its queued over the smurf right now. The brown s35vn is more available than the others because its on multiple dealers, and a second run is on its way. Nice version, but its also overlooked because of the claimed marginal bladesteel improvement over the black satin. There was talk of a brown with a different steel (maybe even a black blade) on a thread a few months back also.

Regardless, dont be afraid to use it. If YOU like it that much, a pre need replacement may also be warranted! Either way, you will not have trouble reselling a nib or used one for a fair price.

As far as value is concerned, you never really know. But its safe to assume that it should hold steady at around the $150 mark for some time to come. Outside the U.S. is where prices get less predictable.

I look at it this way...if you enjoy having them but not using them then do that. BUT...if you get your enjoyment from having AND using, then use the dang thing. In all reality we are not talking a huge financial investment here, even if you could double the price you bought it for on resale...what is the price of your enjoyment and pleasure in using the knife? If you are happy to sit around wishing you would/could use it, but won't allow yourself that pleasure then you are selling out you own enjoyment of the knife for $150 at most (again, assuming you could double it on resale).

Think how easy it is to spend (and waste) $150 nowadays! That's maybe 3 tanks of gas! Isn't your enjoyment worth that? You bought the knife, now enjoy it or just get rid of it so you can quit worrying about whether or not to use it. Life is too dang short!

Anyway, that's my 2 cents...you can keep the change.... :D

Use it... I'm using my Brown Para II everyday until... I get the Green sprint run to replace it.

I say use it. Enjoy it. I carried my PM2 CF / S90V for several months. It finally got pushed out by my new Caly 3 CF / Damascus.

Use it. It's the one I use. I really like the brown color, and the steel.

Dealers got more in today, so I don't see it going up alot in price like some have.

At first I was hesitant about using mine, too. But now that dealers are getting more of the brown in, I'm carrying it more and more. I don't see them increasing in value all that much, so might as well make it do what it's designed to do.

Generally you will not get all that great a (investment) return back on small-market commodities if you actually calculate it annually. Exceptions might include limited edition sebenzas, Hinderer knives. I mean, you buy a knife for 120-150, and 3-6 years later you can sell it for 200-250 at most if it's really rare, and in most cases you will barely make 10-15% over the price you paid, if not far less because now it's secondhand...

Not saying it's not worth it speculating on value of collectible knives, but I think time invested in other things would earn you more money back if that's your concern.

I buy knives, and I tend to use 'em, because that's what they're for. ESPECIALLY Spydercos ;).

I just paid secondary-market prices for an S90v C/F PM2 and it is darn sure going to get used just like the others (got the blue/grey/orange/satin-digicam models and everyone of them gets carried/used on a regular basis).

I try and sell knives that I don't carry/use (with a few exceptions). I get the whole collecting thing (and have done it with quite a few knives), but I'm getting to the point that I really want to use my knives now days.

Use it, after all that's what they were made for . If you're really concerned wait till you get the blue PM2, M390 is a wicked steel. You'll want to keep it in your pocket all the time and since you're getting 2 you can make one a user and the other can sit in a safe.

Precisely. My first really expensive knife was a William Henry that I fell in love with, but could not bring myself to use. But with a super steel (189) blade, I said "what the hell" and use it as EDC to cut cardboard, etc. And I enjoy every minute of it. Pure pleasure of use - that's my return on investment.

Use them. Carry them. You'll make them happy. You'll make yourself happy. There's nothing like the feeling of a well-made knife in your hand...

USE the knife or sell it would be my recomendation. It's silly to keep a tool locked away only to fondle once in a while.
