Spyderco Police -- 2 questions. Should I??

I have been contemplating whether or not to consider a Police again. I bought one new, and did not get the hang of the quick one handed opening so I sold it.

Two questions:
How hard is it relatively speaking, to become quick at opening the Police one handed. I loved the blade length, except that for me it seemed harder to open with one hand than what I had expected -- I am used to either using two hands or else having a spring assisted opener. Want to do one handed.

The other thing which bothered me was how slippery the handle felt. I think I saw a Police offered by Spydie guys with a G10 or similar handle but the price was up to where I decided to think it over.

Any comments or suggestions?

Thanks all.

Depending on the person, it takes a little while to be proficient. Also depends on how you hold it. I found initially I was holding it too far away from the pivot which made opening more difficult.

Stainless is too heavey and too slippery for me, I'd go with one of their G10 handled models.

Barry 'The Blade' Muldano carried a Police model in "The Client."

Barry met a bad end.

But that blade was sure neat lookin.

:D

It may take a snap of the wrist to fully open the blade. Practice makes perfect. If you can find a G10 handle version, BUY IT! Then tell me where you bought it so I can get one! I have an SS Police and I almost never carry it because the SS handles are slick (So much, in fact, that I'm worried it won't even stay clipped to my back pocket).

Spyderco makes some kick ass knives, but I'll never buy one that has a stainless handle.

It's just too slick and slippery. Slick and slippery may be good for some things, but not knife handles.

I like the SS Police for inside the waistband carry, where its thinness makes it very comfortable, especially for a large knife. That said, I greatly prefer to USE the G-10 model. Of course, both models have a blade over the 4" legal limit here in Kansas

My quick deployment method is to grab the knife by the Spyderhole in a pinch grip, pull the knife out of my waistband or pocket, then flick the handle down into my palm (known nowdays as the Spyderdrop). With a little practice it became automatic for me.

Those PoliceS with g10 were quite good IMHO. Now those SS are not so practical. As for me, from those folding spydercoS I like the most 1Chinook and policeG10.
I can only recommend you to buy benchmade ;-) , or if you still want edc spyderco - try endura 4.

Just got my first Benchmade. WOW. That is one solid feeling knife. Happy camper. Now I need to figure out what the BM equivalent of a Police is :)

The AFCK was Benchmade's updated version of the Spyderco Police. Funny thing is, it and all its decendents have been discontinued, and the Police is still ticking along. ;)

That, and my old AFCK is the flimsiest folder I own, while my even older G-2 Police is still rock solid (and it's the knife I've carried and used the most, ever). :)

greetings, my question may not be worthwhile to start a new thread, so...
I'm also searching for a Spyder police, I'm looking for a full serration one with
ZDP-189 blade, I never saw a G-10 version, if it doesn't have steel liner,
I would go with a Stainless handle, so, here is my configuration:
Police, se, ss, ZDP-189, anyone has idea when it is available?
thanks

Ever heard of skateboard "grip tape"?
A few well positioned strips of these sandpaper like self-adhesive tapes (on the non-clip side) could just add the much needed grip, that everyone has been griping so much about.
Now let's not hear equal amount of complaints about what such a rough surface can do to those soft girly hands already!

my stupid :-)

Nah... You just didn't know it wasn't made. ;)

Spyderco has a forum under the manufacturers heading. It doesn't hurt to go over there and start a thread asking for a Police with ZDP. No promises, but Spyderco does listen to the forums and sometimes feeds their desires. :)

The police is getting overdue for an update anyways, IMO.

Police upgrades I would like to see:

Four way clip,

Waved,

Acid-etched,

Lanyard hole (once upon a time, they had them),

ZDP steel,

Yeah baby!
