Think Of The Children, I recently went to your Spyderco pics page. On the caption for the Spyderco Police model, you say that it's been in the movie Fight Club.

Spyderco Police

I'd really like to know where, since I've looked and looked, and haven't found it. :( My friends and I are real Fight Club nuts, so it'd be great if you could tell me where the Spyderco is.

Not challenging you, I'm just a Fight Club researcher that's always looking for more interesting tidbits from the movie :) In the "Commissioner Castration" scene, they do have a knife, with which they threaten to castrate the Police Commissioner, but it's definitely not a Spyderco Police. It's a fixed blade with an index finger hole. I wonder what it is?

Oh BTW, I noticed you're also in Baltimore. I've read up on knife laws for Maryland, and there wasn't very much out there. It seems they're leaving a lot up to interpretation, and whether the blade is being carried with an "intent or purpose of injuring". I'm glad that there's no insane blade length laws though. And the statute does say that you can have a knife on you for self-defense purposes as a reasonable precaution against apprehended danger. Do you have any other info on what's cool and what's not in the state?

Thanks. I've actually looked at that, and also done some searching around the online law databases. What you sent me is basically all that's in the laws concerning blades, so it's a good summary.

Just had to make sure that there wasn't some strange law hidden somewhere stating that you can't carry a blade longer than 2 inches while wearing shoes in MD. Who knows.

Ed Norton when he is being threatened by thr cops because he wants to stop the operation, they "have to get his balls" becuase he as tyler durden told them too

James, thanks for the link. That's the best you can get for the actual letter of the law, Alphalpha. To put it better, however -- if a cop wants to arrest you, they can. That's basically the end of the story right there. Don't piss off a cop or any knife you have will be a weapon. Not saying it will 100% stick in court, but they can bring you in on it.

Also, remember that the part about 'reasonable fear of danger' is up to the jury. They get to decide whether your fear was reasonable or not and how reasonable your response was in terms of your carry choice. In other words, I wouldn't expect to get away with carrying a machete because of 'reasonable' fear. I can't think of a jury that would consider that an ok idea.

In regards to Fight Club, when Ed Norton goes to the Police station to talk with the officers near the end, they try to castrate him. As two officers hold him, one of them pulls out a Spyderco Police and I believe he uses two hands to open it. That's when Ed grabs the gun and gets out the door. It's why he's pantless at the end. Remember now?

Whoa!

Never noticed the Spyderco in that scene. Just saw it. Nice :) I guess I was just too busy admiring Ed Norton's acting.
