To be used for EDC and kithchen duty. I generally prefer the Spyderco hole over a stud for opening, other than that I'm open. What are your thoughts?... or suggestions. Thanks.

I have a 710 and have handled the Police, I also have 4 Militaries which are similar.

710:
- more pocket friends carries much smaller and slimmer
- D2 will hold an edge better than VG-10, but is also harder to sharpen
- I'd say its the better EDC of the two

Police:
- has a FFG which I prefer for almost all tasks, will certainly be better for food prep
- VG-10 is a true stainless and combined with the longer blade and FFG make this the better food prep knife by far IMO
- very long handle and blade, however nice and slim so does carry well for its size.

I guess it depends on what percentage you plan on using it for food prep while EDCing, the Police is a better food prep knife and good edc blade, the 710 is better edc blade and decent food prep knife, I'd also look at the Military as its a bit of a middle ground between these too, has a true stainless steel, ffg, not as long as the Police. You could also look at the M390 version of the 710 as its very stainless, more so than S30V or VG10 and will hold an edge longer than any of the other steels mentioned (D2, S30V, VG10).

Sorry don't have a Police to photograph, but here's a 710 and Military along with some others to compare size with.

Without specifying what you actually DO in edc, it is hard to say. I own both, and rotate them regularly. Today I have the 710 in pocket. Why? Because I'm in the middle of sharpening the blade. Any deeper reason? Nope.

The Police is definitely better at food prep. The choil allows you to choke up for finer usage, the FFG as Michael discussed earlier, and the high stain resistance of VG10, which is regularly used in high end kitchen knives.

Really, it comes down you your other uses, preferences, and usage pattern. Do you work an office job where you randomly use it, mostly on paper, with maybe a couple medium size boxes a week? Do you have heavier duty jobs that crop up regularly? Neither knife has ever failed me, but if I though I was going to need a knife for sustained heavy usage, I'd go for the 710. The Police is very, very thin- great for carrying- but is less comfortable for long, heavy usage than the 710, which has a thicker handle, and thus more comfortable. The police needs to be oiled to "flick" like a 710, but does ok if well oiled and cleaned.

Really, it comes down to preference. I prefer the police g10 personally, but I'm a sucker for finger cutouts just ahead of the blade. Either one is an incredible knife that will NOT disappoint.

I'll get pictures up later if no one else does. And any other questions on usage, ask away.

dont know about the police, but I had a 710-2 (m390) it was alright, coming from slipjoints, the grind and thickness of steel did not appeal as much as I thought it would to me in that knife, something with a taller blade and longer taper would have been nicer. I also found it chipped out on me at a 25* inclusive, of course that could have been my technique or a bad HT on the blade, either way I'd still go police for a nice thin FFG.
