Hello.

Been awhile since I was on BF. I am considering getting rid of some older knives since I really want a Spyderco Proficient. Probably not wise as these are older, but money is tight.
Trying to figure out if my dad's old Police Model is gen 1 or 2. I think 2 because of the beveled handles, but no blade stamp for steel throws me. Thanks in advance for advice...and if anyone reading this has a Proficient, let me know what you think.

Can’t help you on the POLICE gen question, but the Proficient is ergonomic bliss. I lean towards more pliable steels for outdoor use so S90v would not be my first choice.

Hi Homebrw,

The Police knife you have is 2nd generation.

The Proficient is a very special design with exception ergonomics for hours of use without hot spots. Chris Claycomb developed the handle for bushcraft. We made the "NASA" version because of requests from customers that didn't want a "Scandi" grind of the original. With a full flat ground S90V blade and a solid machined carbon handle, the Proficient is kind of an Ultimate outdoor use knife. I personally purchased 10 pieces for future gifts as we probably won't do a 2nd run due to the high cost.

Damn that's pretty. My 1st Spyderco was a 1988 Police model PE
