I cant decide on which one to get. The knife will be used for EDC.

Things i like on each: Things i don't like:

Police: Police:
1. Great steel 1. Handles being slippery
2. Spyderedge 2. No guard
3. Big for most jobs

Maxx with bowie blade
1. Blade steel
2. Flipper
3. Slim all around

Maxx:
1. Blade may rust
2. Slippery handles
3. Not very friendly looking

So basically what i'm looking for is a folder with 3.5 inch blade +. Something good for EDC. So any opinions on each or any other models i should look at?

Is this EDC for SD or just for all around use?

If 3.5" is what your looking for then I think both of these especially the Maxx are out of your specs.

If it were me I'd choose the MAXX do to it's smooth opening and I like big blades. If rusting is an issue do to envoronment I'd get the Police but if your in a regular climate and a true knife knutt then providing the proper care for the D2 shouldn't be an issue.

If 3.5" is what you require I'd look more towards the Griptilian by BM. There are also numerous BM's and Spyderco's with your lentgh requirements. If grip and thinckness are an issue then I'd look towards models with G-10 like the Spyderco Military or the BM 730.

Goodluck

I'm not looking for SD. Mostly utility. Any other ideas are welcome.

3.5 inches is the littlest blade i would get.

I have both knives, and carry the Police far more often due to its slimmer profile, ease of carry and "less intrusive" appearance.

By the way, I see the apparent slippery handles of the Police referred to quite often, and despite the feeling when holding casually, the overall shape of the handle and manner in which the blade lines up to the handle, my hand does not slide up to the edge of the knife. I've dunked the knife in vegetable oil, opened it, and cut and stabbed some training dummies made of carpet and canvas. My hand did not slide up to the knife edge. I do this with any knife I want to carry, which is how I found out.

I do like both knives. Pick the one that you think you enjoy more.

Get the Police, and get it fully serrated.
Neither of them look friendly... The Maxx looks like it was designed as a fighter (duh...), and the Police looks like a shark that could bite ya. :D
The Police handle is more ergonomic and suited to utility.
I can't wait until mine arrives (tomorrow!!).

Peace.

I own both and I would suggest that they are neither what I would call particularly "people friendly" in their appearance. The Police is not a particularly useful shape for an EDC as it is so long and narrow. It is what it appears to be, a weapon. I tried carrying one as an EDC for a while many years ago and its appearance saved me from an attack in a DC METRO elevator, and that, I think, explains its effect when produced and opened with a Spydie Drop.*

When I was showing my CUDA MAXX 7" to the folks in a Chesapeake Knife & Tool store, I opened it in the prescribed manner by starting it with the little "ears" and then flicking it. I almost caused a panic, even among the staff of the store who knew that I was only just opening it for demo. The effect of flicking open the MAXX 5.5 is only slightly less in normal circumstances.

If I were going to carry one of the knives in an environment where such a knife would not be cause for a panic, it would be the CUDA MAXX 5.5 withy the Bowie style blade. This is a good all-around utility blade and will take a wicked sharp edge.

BTW, why do you want the teeth? Unless you use it for cutting PVC, carpet, or similar things, you are better off with a plain edge.

* I was taking an elevator down to DC's METRO system when I was approached by two punks who came on in a manner that can only be described as intimidating. THey had seen me walking with a cane and I was middle aged and over weight, so they thought that they had an easy mark. When I drew out my knife and did the Spyderco Drop with it, they were apprised of a different opinion and, when the elevator reached the Mezzanine level, they departed the elevator and went quickly to the escalator back to the street. NOTE: Do not pull a knife unless you are prepared to follow through to the end, for you have just raised the level of the confrontation to deadly force and you could get very seriously hurt or killed unless you are prepared to do so. I was so prepared. I was also damned lucky.

The reason i wanted the teeth was because if i did get it it would be for utility and plus i suck at sharpening:o .

However i don't think i'm gonna go with either of them but thanks for all the help:p
