Hello all,
I just recieved my Spyderco Pride with American Flag from New Graham about 2 hours ago and here are my first impressions. First off, the handle is made of aluminum (almite me thinks) and is beautifully done. The flag is very colorful and all of the etching done is even around it. One of my worries though is that the flag looks like an insert into the handle and I wonder about the possibility of it falling out! Does anyone know how these are secured? At any rate, the handle is the same as the Navigator and is plenty comfy although a wee bit slick.
The blade is made of AUS-6 and unfortunately, mine came with a nasty rolled edge that wouldn't cut snot
Well, 10 min later, I sharpened her to a 30* bevel and she cuts like the dickens. The one thing that I don't like about the blade (besides it being dull) is that the cusp on top of the blade of the Navigator isn't on the Pride. Instead it is slick which IMO decreases comfortable and secure thumb placement.
Last but not least is the slipjoint action. Upon opening the Pride, I found it to be quite stiff. This led me to believe that the spring is strong (similar to the Douk Douk) however I find that the knife closes rather easily (almost too easily IMO). Still,if you are careful, I don't think it should be a problem.
Overall, I like this little fella. Besides all of the short comings I've mentioned, it is a very light and handy little blade. I especially like the clip which although is set just right for secure deep pocket carry. If you like slipjoints, I would suggest you check out a Pride, I think you'll like it...and for the price..you can't go wrong.
Thanks,
Matt
